Hey folks, finished my first successful build recently thanks to advice taken from these forums. Now a friend has asked me to put something together for him, unfortunately his budget is a lot less than I had for mine.

I've informed him he wont get anything amazing for £400 but I said I'd have a look to see what's possible. He doesn't need a mouse, keyboard or monitor.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance..

Hey, cheers for the replies. I'll be building it and no OS is needed, apologies, should have mentioned that before.

I'm in the process of trying to convince my friend it's worth spending a bit more, at the moment he's fixed to £400 though.

Get rid of the mouse and keyboard, use the stock cooler for processor, swap case for bitfenix Neos, get rid of CD drive and install windows with USB stick. All this should save you enough to swap the 260 for a 280! I would have made a basket for you but don't have access to it at the moment.

Total should be around £420. I realise this is a touch over budget but well worth it in my opinion for a gaming rig.

Edit: You could get a 270X to bring it within budget but I would say the extra £20 would be worth it.

Worth a mention as well, currenttly the 280 comes with the AMD Gold reward of 3 free games.

In the process of adjusting the original spec I didn't realise the PSU was only 430W. I think you might to consider 500-550w for the 280!

Edit: If that's the case then he might need to stretch a little further (total minus shipping)
