Hi all, a good friend is looking for a laptop, I want to sort him out.

What is the best gaming laptop for £850 right now?

He doesn't care much about battery life or noise, and mostly is concerned about heat in regards to the lifetime of the components.

Thanks

Although might not be too helpful, but the best gaming laptop at that price is a second hand one. Look over at notebookcheck.net at get the best laptop with the fastest GPU within budget. It's the gpu that has the biggest impact on gaming.

Hi,

This unit offers good value for the money, discounted by £200 compared to price a month or so ago. Slightly over budget,, but worth considering.

SSD and RAM can be added at a later date to expand and upgrade performance and storage.

Another option which is under budget, but with corei5 processor and 2 steps down in GPU:

Do you void warranty by adding an ssd to these gigabyte laptops? Also is it easy to transfer the os to the ssd? I might be interested if both of the above are yes.

HI pipson,

You will be delighted to learn that installation of ssd, (or ram), doesn't not void the warranty on Gigabyte notebooks. :-)

Also, with regards to moving the O/S from the HDD to the new SSD after installation, yes this is also possible.

We can get an instruction guide from HQ to help you through this process if you need it. Its been requested today.

But in essence the answers to both your questions is "YES"...

Hope that helps,

Hi again Pipson,

HQ have sent a guide to assist with transferring O/S from HDD to SSD.

Here are the steps to follow:

1.Download EaseUS Partition Master Free from http://www.partition-tool.com/download.htm
2.Install it
3.Choose the disk which contains the Windows system and select Migrate OS to SSD/HDD
4.Choose the target SSD
5.Check the SSD optimization
6.Apply the configuration and reboot
7.Enter the BIOS and change the boot device from HDD to SSD
8.Done

Hope that helps you to achieve what you want once you have purchased. Any further assistance or question please feel free to post accordingly.

Thanks,

Regards,

Hi Pipson,

For the forthcoming new version (P15F v3-CF1) the SSD slot is mSATA

For the current version (P15F v2-CF1) the SSD slot is also mSATA

For the new version we have had these with a removable optical drive that accepts 2.5" SSD or HDD - the V3 model ships with the caddy to take the additional storage option. Not available on the v2 model.

Hope that helps,

Acer Aspire V Nitros can be had for £729 if your looking to save a bit of money, although they come with i5-4210H instead of the i7-4720HQs, which are instead going for £849 on Amazon which lucky fits your budget.
