Best gaming mouse for as little as possible?

I quite like the logitech G500: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=KB-176-LG

There is also the razer abyssus Mirror: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=KB-050-RA but I have never used it so cannot comment.

If you want to go even cheaper then the logitech g400 is on a this week only at the moment: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=KB-200-LG

Always been a fan of logitech mice and it doesnt look too far from the g500 so could be a bargain in waiting

g400 is the successor of the MX510 / MX518. One of the most successful line. Also some people harp about the microsoft explorer mouse, which are pretty cheap. had a G500, decent mouse, developped a squeak on a button after a gaming session, and the thumb rest has a rough texture that can be a turn off.

IMO, the g400 should be a good workhorse, for gaming or otherwise.

What is exactly different between a normal mouse and a gaming mouse?

A gaming mouse is used to play games. A normal mouse is a small creature that runs around fields in search of food and tries to avoid other animals such as cats.

A normal mouse shown below.

Hope I was a help to you! :D

What is exactly different between a normal mouse and a gaming mouse?

- range of sensitivity (higher precision sensors, with a choice of high or low sensitivities).
- acceleration, better tracking under gaming conditions (won't skip, although normal mice nowadays rarely have problems).
- poll rate, ect... It's mainly a 'stats' thing, never seen any perceived latency with normal mice.
- often it's laser sensor versus optical. Gaming mice are also sometimes optical. Laser usually tracks better on weird surfaces.
- buttons to switch from various sensitivity levels (always at the max for me).
- more buttons (useful, although tbh I'm happy with just two additional thumb buttons, more is cluttered).
- possibly additional weights (useless to me I prefer light weight to begin with).
- leds (meh).
- user profiles (meh again).
- price.
