Best GFX Card for under £200?

The 4890 is pretty much neck and neck with the 275, in fact some reviews (anandtech, guru3d) show it as the faster card.

Anyhow, buy the 275 if you want to stick with nvidia. They are both great cards and both overclock very well.

Another vote for the 4890. Got mine a few weeks back and it plays everything maxed out. Crysis, farcry2, empire total war, you name it.

Really? Man, I wish I was more open to things cause that sounds really good. I'm basically wanting to get a good GFX card out of the way for my new rig (August/September) but as I say above, I'm just a bit nervous about getting an ATI card. Any compatibility issues or anything on Windows 7 known? Or anything else for that matter?

Slightly of topic. do ati do the physics yet? and how much of a difference does it make in games. Is there many games which support it?

Not really tried physics. And yeah Crysis on full. Well I only did 2x AA cause at 1920x1200 it looked nice enough.

Yeah I can imagine :p
Right well, I've had a look at the 4890. The only thing is, I have no idea about ATI GFX card companies. Who is the best. ie BFG & EVGA for Nvidia.
cheers.

XFX and Sapphire I beleive. But I went for the cheepest one lol.
Btw just to state, I'm not saying this card is better then nvidia, just saying my own experiances with it :)

I'd get the ASUS 4890, its one of the cheapest but also allows you to overclock it using the included software up to 950MHz core clock and stay within the warrenty.

If you are not interested in overclocking it, then the XFX is also a good deal. Its the same price as the ASUS but comes with two games and if anything goes wrong OCUK will replace it directly.

Yeah that's no problem though. I'm speaking to real people who actually own the card or have had experiences with it rather than random reviews. This is helping me figure it out. As I said above, it's just the fact that I've never had any problems with Nvidia. The only reason why I'm looking at a new card just now is because the one i have has been discontinued and I could still sell it and get a nice amount for it. (EVGA 9800GTX+ 1GB)

If you're not building your new rig until August/September, then I'd hold off a gfx card as late as possible - the new ATI cards are due soon(ish), and even if out of your price range, the chances are that the current generation of cards will drop considerably by then.........one thing I am surprised at is how well CPU prices have maintained value - I got my Q6600 about a year ago, and I was shocked to see that they appear to sell for more used than I paid new!

Yeah? I've been using a Q6600 for about a year and a half. never really had any problems, i'm just in future-proofing mode and want a much better pc. fair enough i pretty much don't NEED to but i want to and i'm pretty much going to. i just wanted to speak to everyone on here for the best inputs.

cpu prices are different though. the Q6600 rose in value because of its popularity making stock more scarce. If you look around more you will see that faster cpus (at stock) are much cheeper now. The same theory doesnt apply to graphics cards which usually devalue at a proportional rate to their speed not overclocking ability.
