Best gpu for 1080p gaming?

I was thinking of getting the msi gtx 970 but I wondered if it was overkill just for 1080p? If so, could you recommend any nvidia ones for around the same price?

i believe thats probably the sweet spot... i have the overkill lol totally pointless getting a 980 in hindsight when the 970 is "as good" at 1080p

people are reporting that they can max out games with it at this res

I still don't think any GPU on market is over kill at 1080p... People seem to forget games are getting more demanding 1080p is still a demanding res on some games when trying to push max settings.

It's really between that and the 780 for me
