Hey everyone, im new on this forum :)

I am planning on building another computer for the Samsung Odyssey G9 Neo 57 Inch Super Ultra Wide which is essentially two 32 inch 4K Screens merged together into a curve.

I am looking for a GPU that does support Display Port 2.1 and is able to run the said resolution 7,680 x 2,160

For this build it's mainly for 3D Modelling, Unreal Engine 5, ZBrush, Video Editing and Immersive Gaming (Sim Racing, Flight Sim etc.)

I was originally gonna wait for the Radeon 9070 XT but when comparing it to the RTX 5080 it's hard to choose from, there is also RTX 5090 but's it's very hard to get a cheaper on at the current time.

Which GPU of the current 2025 would be great for this monitor outside of the RTX 5090 and RTX 4090 (as it doesn't have DisplayPort 2.1) ?

As of now, the only high end card that's in stock at a sane price is the 7900 XTX at ~£850. So it's that, or cough up scalper prices for a 5080/5090, or wait.

i was looking at that card, is it worth getting? or im i better off getting a RTX 5080 if i wait a bit until it comes into stock?

@darkrage are you sure that the monitor has a true DP2.1 80gb/s connection?

Confusingly, DP2.1 alone is not enough to avoid using DSC. You need it to support 80gb/s.

I’ll have a quick browse for you but my initial scan didn’t confirm it either way.

Edit: the terminology you are ideally looking for is UHBR20

Actually, I’m pretty sure that transferring a display resolution that big without DSC is impossible even at 80GB/s.

@Baddass (resident expert) - that’s correct isn’t it?

I'm using a 5080 with the G9 57 for gaming and its pretty good. You are pretty reliant on DLSS though. Getting over 60 FPS playing KCD 2 maxed out and its pretty awesome.

If you can wait, wait.

If you can't wait, the 7900 XTX is the best card available which isn't subject to scalper pricing. It's a good card. But a 5080 or 5090 would be more suitable.

Yes that’s correct, to powed 7680 x 2160 at 240Hz will need to use DSC regardless. Even if you had DP 2.1 with UHBR20 (80Gbps) support.

The other complication here is that the G9 57” screen only has a UHBR13.5 DisplayPort 2.1 connection anyway. You can of course use a UHBR20 card like an RTX 50 series anyway, but it won’t offer you any advantage over just having a UHBR13.5 card like the AMD consumer cards. So you can safely get either as long as it has at least UHBR13.5 support to match the monitor

5090 would be the only option for that, especially if gaming

I run its smaller brother, the 49inch 5120x1440 and a 3090 and even that can chug a bit native
