im soon building a gaming pc but im confused about what GPU to get, ive been wanting to buy the AMD 7950, but im not sure if NVidia gtx 670 is better. most people say that AMD is better for money but im not sure ??

670 is faster out the box more often than not. 7950 is marginally faster when overclocked although to the eye they're even.

While I love my GTX 670 I think they're too expensive compared to the HD7950. I'd take AMD card because it's nearly as fast and has more Vram which help in high resolution environments.

Did you go out of your way to make the price difference that large or was it just a bit of a goof.

Only when going brand new is there a large price difference, and as other have said at stock the 670 just edges it but once overclocked the 7950 normally pulls ahead.

Get yourself an Nvidia and you'll lose out 4 times.
1) You'll pay a lot more.
2) You'll get no free games.
3) You'll have slower performance (also cannot play tomb rider on MAX with hair)
4) You'll have to upgrade your card sooner, as it only has 2 gig of Vram.

1) You'll pay a lot more. Agreed
2) You'll get no free games. Not true
3) You'll have slower performance (also cannot play tomb rider on MAX with hair) on one game?
4) You'll have to upgrade your card sooner, as it only has 2 gig of Vram. By the time an increase in VRAM is needed don't you think you will have to upgrade your card/s anyway regardless of brand ?

Does anyone reckon there's a big performance difference between 7950 and 7970 because 7970's are about £80 more expensive than the 7950 but the same prise as the 670 I think ?

No, I think the difference between the 7950 and the 7970 is about 5-10% at the same core clock speed; definitely not worth the extra money.

When they first came out the 7970 was at 925MHz stock on the core and the 7950 was at 800MHz. Now, we have custom versions of the 7950s which can beat a stock 7970 for a much better price.

This MSI Twin Frozr 3 7950 Boost 3GB is £225 (down from £260 for this week) and because it has such a high core clock of 960MHz, I am sure it would trade blows with a stock 7970. Max OC vs. max OC, this card should end up being with 10% of the performance of a 7970. I would recommend this card. The 7900s also come with Bioshock Infinite and Crysis 3 free. If you don't want them, you could sell the codes and get some cash back, meaning the card would effectively come in at under £200.

Thanks arch, I was really frustrated that I couldn't buy the 7970 when overclockers first opened as it were only £200 but now I feel better that there isn't a big difference :)

Point 4 is actually untrue.

The fact you can get a 7950 for this price with 2 decent games that sell like hot cakes at around min 15 quid a pop is just amazing really.

I see no reason why anyone would buy a lower spec card, even if you want the games its saving you £30-40 quid if you buy from other people and up to £50+ from retail!

How gay is that? Ooh don't buy an Nvidia card because it'll ruin Lara's hair !

Nvidia will release a driver update to fix Tomb Raider peformance issues.. How many times have AMD had driver problems with new games? They get fixed by both teams fast enough.. To not buy a game because Of Lara croft's hair is the lamest comment I think I've ever read..

Is the games you get with the 7950 any decent, I've not had a look what game you get so I'm not sure ???

I'll give you a clue, it's two games but it's inside an anagram of "p['eiu oeijfdkf[elfwlfki090u084309ik'k[pdif[dsiujokdjf98u". Can you name them?.

The answer is there above if you had simply read the thread (post 9) :p.

Crysis 3 and Bioshock.
