Ok so I'm currently looking for a new GPU which will fit into my £1000 complete rig budget. Currently I have been trying to decided between the 670GTX or the 770GTX, however I am not adverse to trying out a 79XX or a 78XX from AMD. All I'm interested in is performance to price point.

I will mainly be using it for:-

A. Gaming - RTS's Company of Heroes 1 and 2, all the Total War Series and also the odd FPS or RPG (which I would love to be able to make look really lovely).

and

B. Folding - Need to get as much PPD as possible.

I also would like this card to last at least two to three years before I have to look at upgrading to a newer one.

Any suggestions?

If you want to spend £200, 760 or 7950
If you want to spend £300, 7970GHZ or GTX 770
If you want to spend **** loads, Titan,GTX 780,7990,GTX 690

Ignore the 670 and 680's. They are pointless and redundant at the prices that e-tailers are currently seelling them for.

Thanks for the response but which of those cards in the £200 to £300 pound range would be the best for what I want to do with it? For the money??

Card wise, because of your budget I have got to say it comes down to either a GTX 770 or a 7970 GHz, I have been playing Metro Last Light maxed out on my GTX 770 (which looks amazing) at pretty decent FPS, also did a 4v4 on Shogun 2 maxed out with absolutely no problems and I can tell you if it's managing to take Metro Last Light maxed out I would be shocked if it can't take Rome II maxed out as well however if you intend in the future to upgrade to a 1440p display or fancy giving a 3 monitor surround setup a go then the 7970GHz is probably your best bet because it's got more a gigabyte more of GDDR5. But in all honesty if you want to save yourself a bit of cash you shouldn't rule out a GTX 760 considering the price mark/performance though a 7950 might very well be the best choice as not only is there an offer for 3 free games with it but also a damned good card for the price

If you want to fold, don't even consider AMD. AMD cards are hopeless at it, in much the same way that NVIDIA cards are hopeless at bitcoin mining.

Well if benchmarks of the total war series are to be believed in reviews for the cards, Nvidia's cards trounce the AMD cards. If that is anything to go by then Rome might be the same. I play Total war mainly as well which is why i went for a GTX 770.

also, if you want to fold, it has to be Nvidia.

To be honest with what you want to use it for it is the green team all the way.

I do hope NVidia cards are going to be good for RTW2, I am a massive fan of RTW the original game. When RTW2 hits the shelves I think I am going to be very busy for weeks.:D

Thanks for all your responses, I thought that Nvidia would be the card to go for in terms of folding as my most recent GPU was the 8800GT (untill my other half tried to force feed it vodka) and that would quite amply beat most of the later AMD's in PPD. I'll check out the 760 though. If it suits I may get one.

Been thinking about what you want to do and to be honest go for a 770 a get an SC of JetStream or lightening, even though a 760 or a 7950 isnt a bad choice in terms of a card a 770 is definately the best choice for you mate!!!
