Best graphics card for £100

Hi there,

** No competitor price hinting ***

I opted for a MSI 6850 Cyclone, for around 15 pounds more than that, as I wanted a card that was very quiet but ultimately a good bargain.

So, low power consumption, 1 x PCIE connector, good overclocking headroom (most 6850 can do 900+ easily, low purchase price, what more could you want.

Just my 0.02 cents worth, but I only got mine yesterday and I couldn't be happier.

sorry to cut in on the topic, im getting a new rig as soon as ivybridge is out (ive waited over a year to save up, got the cash now, so figured ive waited this long i might aswell wait a bit longer), i was going to get a 7970 for the new pc, but might see if kepler is out or if prices drop etc, anyway with my current computer i was going to give it away, but then i thought that was stupid, so im going to do it up bit by bit and give it to my son

its currently got a nvidia Geforce 8800 gt club graphics card in it, are the cards mentioned better than that (ive no idea how i would find that out)

If you're waiting for a Kepler card faster than the 7970 then you have a 6 month wait it would seem. If what has been said is true (670ti) then it won't worry the 7970 and thus, prices won't drop.

The only time the 7970 will drop significantly is when there is a faster Kepler card. And that isn't happening until at least Q3 2012 it would seem. Even the 680 has fallen from grace and the only desktop card coming in April (second half of) is the 670ti which apparently (note the word apparently) is faster than a 7950. However, as we all know, the 7950 can match a 7970 when overclocked so it's all rather confusing. At no point have they dared to say it would be faster than the 7970, though.

Another vote for the 460 1GB version. It's a solid card, I loved mine but it's now faulty so I've returned to ati for now. I went with a 6870 which is faster and can be had for ~£120 but I do find the ccc very clunky compared to the nvidea equivalent.

6850 user here, rather happy with it. For the pre-order price of £89.99 delivered it was IMO better value £/performance than the £119.99 460

:D

Well the first number denotes the series (the 460 is a generation older than the 550) and the second one is the 'rank' within that series. For Nvidia the X60 is usually the mid range card that offers good performance and X80 is the best single GPU. Then the X50 cards are budget cards.

Of course they also complicated it with the Ti in this series! lol

How about if they were the same price? (Theoretically).

Also consider i edit video and photo, does that sway into Nvidias favour, despite the 460 being older than the 6850?
