best graphics card for CS;S

Strange as my 4870 plays it at like 200 - 300fps. on max settings at 1680 by 1050

Anyway cs:s is much more cpu orientated.

counter strike source seems to suck on my 4870.
Im thinking of changing to nvidia for onboard physx
ideas?

A 4870 is more than fast enough unless you're playing at some silly resolution or 16xAA, add to that the game doesn't support Physx!

You've given next to no details on your system, what settings your using or anything else... that would really help if you did.

4870 should eat css for breakfast. What's the rest of your spec?

Oh and physX wont do anything to help you in css either.

Edit: beaten by Raikiri it would seem.

Honestly, spending anything on a GPU for CSS would be wasting it when you have a perfectly good card.

Have you tried the obvious like different drivers, checking the temperatures of everything and checking the game files in Steam (Library >> CSS properties >> Local Files >> Verify Integrity of Game Cache) ?

Something's definitely wrong. CSS will run on a calculator these days. Not worth switching GPUs for PhysX either IMO.

If you have every possible setting turned up to the hilt then you may see frames drop in intense situations, but even then it should still be reasonable most of the time, so in your case something is clearly amiss.

If you want 100FPS constant on 16AA 16AF then you will need something slightly better than a 4870. It will also depend on your CPU. I get 200+ FPS on those settings on my system, but with my old GTX 260 i got between 110-150 FPS. Are you running DX 81 as well?
What i would say is once you get to a certain point on CPU, its only GPU limited, but it is the difference between 100FPS and 200FPS, so a new GFX card is only needed if you are going to get a new CPU, until then your CPU is holding you back. Also, is your GFX card 1GB or 512MB?

I'm maxing out CSS at 1920x1200 with a 9800GT. I would have said the cards were comparable?

I'm also using a 1.8Ghz Duo, so you don't need a good CPU either.
