Best Graphics card for me around 200

Hi all,

Just wondering what would be the best graphics card for me. Currently my system is

Intel 930 i7 (running at 4ghz)
Asus P6X58D-E
12GB Corsair Vengance DDR3
Antec 550w PSU
24 Samsung TFT 1920x1080

Ideally I'd like a cool graphics card (well, as cool as possible) which blows the hot air outside the case rather than inside. Hopefully whatever I decide on will be ok with my PSU as I'd rather keep what I've got rather than start upgrading things as that leads to more money :p

The games I want to play will be F1 2010 and F1 2011 (when released) and other racing games as and when they come out.

Currently I've been looking at

ATI 6870, ATI 6950 and the Nvidia GTX 560Ti

No requirements for extra TFTs, SLi or Crossfire. I'm happy with a single monitor and card setup.

Thanks very much

My personal choice would be either the 6950 or the 560Ti. As many people have all ready stated, both cards are simular in performance/price.

It then really comes down to suitability for you and your PC case. I personally would opt for the 560Ti, as i have always owned nvidia products. (secret nvidia fanyboy LOL)

Good luck with your choice.

All depends what make and model you get. Not many out there now that have the reference design fan on them, which exhaust air out the back. Most seem to have either twin fans, or one in the middle, these cards dump most of the air into the case.

Just had to make the same decision as you and am now waiting for my 560ti to arrive :).

From what I can see, they are fairly equal cards - some games run slightly quicker on the 560ti and some run quicker on the 6950. In the end, it came down to price (I paid £172 for my Gigabyte OC to 900mhz) and the fact that I have always been an Nvidia person and not had any problems with any of the cards I have had from them.

I thought at the £200 price point the best bang for buck was the 6950?

Im sure the 560 is a nice card, but the 2Gb vram on the 6950 will pay dividends!

Example:

Crysis 2 high res texture pack.... its got to require or at least benefit from more than 1Gb of vram.

DA2 did.

Shogun 2 another one that benefits from 1Gb+ vram.

6950 all the way!

For £200 is the 6950 still the best bang for buck at stock speeds? There don't seem to be too many of them around now that will easily OC to 6970 speeds :(

I need value/performance out of the box :D

I wouldnt concern your self with flashing, as you cant flash a 560 to a 570 for instance.

Out of the box the 6950 is better bang for buck.

It is time for 2Gb of vram, thats the one thing that takes it above the 560.

a lot of games will need the extra vram nowadays so deffo the 6950.

only problem with ati (i came from nvidia to 2x 6950s) is their terrible drivers.

560 Ti at stock speeds I would have thought, 6950 OC, although I would never risk OCing the 6950 to a 6970, heard of many bad things with that, especially these days.

I bought a Gigabyte 560Ti for £173.99 which was a bargain and unless you plan on gaming on ridiculously high specs then you won't need the 2GB of vram, 1GB will be absolutely fine.

If you can find a 560 Ti for less than 200 then go for it but get a 6950 if it is at £200, you won't usually find one for lower than that.
