I know these kind of questions are annoying, but i need a bit of help deciding.

The system i'm currently building includes:
CPU-E5200
2gb Ram
520 Corsair PSU

The proviso's are:
Good cooling,cheap......and most importantly quiet! ( and something that won't increase my electricity bill!!)

Will be using it for a bit of gaming ( medieval total war 2 ) and internet usage

I've been looking at the HD 4830/4850 cards.....and the nvidia 9800gt

Would appreciate the imput

Thanks

Hey Citizen,

Do you play any FPS games? or is RTS your thing?

I believe games like medieval total war 2 rely more on CPU/System power than a stonking good GPU . . . if you are an RTS master you can probably save some £££ by not needing a heavy duty card!

What resolution is your monitor? what GPU are you using atm?

Your needs:
  • Plays medieval total war 2
  • Good cooling
  • cheap
  • quiet!
  • won't increase my electricity bill!
Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 4670 Ultimate

£62.09 inc

That's about the best new card you can buy for around £60, used it myself for many months and it's great. It obviously has superb cooling (as its passive), doesn't make any noise, hardly uses any power and can pretty much play any game at HD resolutions (1280x720, 1280x1024), very solid choice although £50 to £55 is a more natural price point, once you go higher than this you begin to get a lot more options like nVidia 9800GT Eco-Edition and the Radeon HD4830/HD4850/HD4770.

Best bang for buck will probably be a used card (8800GT/9800GT/HD4850 etc) but if buying new and if your not a Full-HD FPS gamer then the Sapphire HD4670 Ultimate should be in your pick list!

Good luck and let us know how you get on!

Thanks guys.

Wayne,
You say the cpu is more important in MTW?......thats interesting. Think i may invest in a quad cpu then.

I do on occasion play FPS games, but not a massive fan of the genre...and i'm certainly no master!:D
Can't tell you what the resolution of the monitor is as i havn't bought it yet ;). I'm looking at the viewsonic VX1940W......but not going to go beserk on the monitor front. Cheap and cheerful is my motto :)

That card you suggest looks like it'll be just right for me. I'll check this one out.

Cheers
