If you're planning to go SLi in the future, get a 7900GT. If not, the X1800XT is a bargain right now.

hi regarding sli are there still issues with the bios version of cards having to be the same, or have things improved now? just thinking about if you buy two cards 6 months apart...

The new drivers have sorted that so you can use cards from different manufacturers

They still need to be the same type of card, for example two 7800GTs or two 7800GTXs (not one 7800GT and one 7800GTX)

The 7900 GT would be better if overclocking.
If running stock then the x1800xt.

But because you have a SLI mobo it would be silly to get an x1800 and be stuck with the option of only having one card.

so the 7900 GT is the clear choice.

Definatly go for the 7900GT. Possibly invest in a VF900 and volt mod :). This will wipe the floor anything else in that price bracket, and of course you're left the option to go SLI in the future.

7900GT is a clear winner once you clock it, and everyone ive used or seen goes to 570 mhz easy (less power than ati and less noise & heat) A VF900 is recommended on the 7900GT i feel. Stock the x1800xt is the better choice performance wise.
