Best GTX 970 Version?

Yeah, your temps are unusually low. I only have 1 120mm intake at the front and 120mm/200mm exhausts, at the back and at the top respectively but I doubt this would account for 15c+ temp difference;p It's really odd, makes me wonder whether everything's fine with my card.

Out of curiousity, what is your ASIC? Could you check that in GPU-Z, along with the temps during heavy loads? Sorry for being a nuisance, it's just that I've never seen a GTX 970 with such low temps and I'd really want to do something to bring mine down a couple of deg;p

I must be honest I'm finding it hard to believe those temps when overclocked. Maybe people have left a window open in the winter :p

Even in reviews on open benches cards were hitting at least 60c without that big a clock.

g1s do run cool :D

mines 27c idle /54c after hrs of bf4 at 1500mhz on stock volts :p

G1 is not semi-passive. Besides, BF4 doesn't put that much load on the GPU from what I remember (at least not as much as C3 and Metro). I initially intended to buy the Giga but it was simpy too long to fit in my case.

Just did a full loop in Firestrike. Max temps were 73 and even hit 74 for a sec but only once. The temps difference is just impossible. On the plus side, the new drivers seem to improve scores. Even though I lowered my OC, I got about 120pts more this time round (10753pts).

I'm quite happy with the card and I can easily recommend it if someone's in the market for a 970. Clocks nicely on stock volts (though throttles back to 1498-1503 at times in the most demanding apps, bloody TDP limit), feels sturdy, doesn't buzz terribly when under load and the fans at 50% are really gentle. I'm just a bit of a temp freak and I'd really like to do something to shave 2-4c off the max load temps;p

A side fan perhaps?

TBH, such temps would be hard to believe even if the card was at stock. There are three possible explanations:

1. BaNksY got a ridiculously good card.

2. The temp sensor is shot (don't think so).

3. He has an occasional polar bear creeping up on his house every now and then, which fact he decided to conveniently leave out;p

My case is extremely cool Amatsubu, got a 230mm side fan blowing cool air over the card. Air coming out the rear fan is cool yet I still hit high 60's when gaming. I'd like to believe these mid 50 temps on air but I'm struggling to find how. You guys aren't limiting fps are you?

I don't think its too hard to believe. My MSI gaming 980 seems to max out at around 60 degrees at 1500mhz core and 7800mhz memory, stock voltage at a warmish ambient temp.

I've never checked for ASICS before, how do I do this?
No no open window trickery or anything like that, I honestly just thought this was how cool the Strixx ran.

In short you get what you pay for.

I have 1st hand experience of this with the GTX970

I did have the Inno 3d and it was hot (80c+ without any OC), loud, coil whine central with a little bit of a bend to the PCB for the cherry on top.
Now I could have just had a bad one as I'm sure they have sold loads of Inno 3d cards without any issue.

.................

I too RMA'd the inno3D due to exactly the same problems. I think 80C+ is what they all run at which is pi** poor for a gfx card that is meant to be cooler and draw less power than the competition. The card I had even smelt of burning after 10-15mins under full load.

Would not recommend the cheaper cards with cheap cooling at all.

i have 4 140mm fans in my 810 nzxt ultra nice and cool.

max ingame ive seen is my beloved theHunter which raised temps to 60c

bf4 = 54c.

Right just had another run on firestrike and still low temps, shown with gpu-z and msi afterburner (interestingly lower score for me with the new drivers compared to my last run)

Then just had 2 games of BF4 and got a much more normal max temp of 68c with a max fan of 39% so very very quiet.

So my card is running at normal sort of temps when under prolonged load but a run of firestrike just doesn't get the temp up as much.

Definatley recommend this card though, It has made me fall in love with pc gaming all over again :D

You have to open up GPU-Z, right click somewhere on the logo and then click "read ASIC quality".

As for your temps, IDK, maybe it has something to do with the rest of my setup (4790k with quite a big cooler on it which is relatively close to the card), mediocre cable management and no side fan?

However, your temps in BF4 are more in line with what other people get and I can totally see the card having such load temps in a decently cooled case. I get 64-68c in Metro but temps shoot up in certain demanding sections. In C3 it's usually 70-73c, drops in indoor levels. Well, it's a good card anyways;p
