Best H50 setup?

Noticed that the Corsair H50 is just 50 quid from OcUK now, so getting my girlfriend to get me one for my birthday this weekend.

Wondered if could pick everyone's brains for the best setup. I'd like it in push/pull, venting out the back of the case. I'll get two performance fans for it (or rather she will!), so what would be everyones recommendation for them? My emphasis is on silence, but combined with as much cooling as possible, as the arrival of Sandybridge has finally made me realise I should not be wasting my i7 930's potential, so am going to break my overclocking cherry.

Any advice most appreciated.

Cheers.

Hey there

If you want silence put 2 apache vipers on it in push pull and dont use the fan that comes with it as its not quiet at all.

Running 2 Vipers on my H70 and cant really hear them at all better cfm than the Corsair stock fan as well.

Cheers

I have my Corsair H50 coupled with two Akasa Ultra Vipers set to exhaust (rear) at around 1400rpm and it provides some great results. I have had it set as a rear intake (as corsair recommends) however I found it was pulling in more hot air this way due to the rising heat that my gpu was exhausting during games.

I'd certainly recommend the ultra vipers, however it's upto you to find the best position in your case to place it :) I've seen a H50 set as a direct intake at the front of the case and one setup exhausting out of the top.

EDIT: just seen your case! I have the K62 so I'd probably go for my sort of setup. However, I would say that wouldn't I ;)

I have mine as intake, but it works nicely in a 902 case because the 200mm fan is right above the pull fan, so hot air in the case isn't really a problem at all.

Aside from that, entirely depends on how your case is arranged. Not everyone has a modified Antec P180 mini.

Generally cases are better suited to exhausting rather than drawing in air from the rear (usually where hot air from the PSU and GPU is being dumped).

Hope those are quiet fans or it will sound like heathrow at midday. :D

Everyone thinks they are all fans ^^

Only two fans on the radiator. One as air intake below. One rear exhaust fan. One top exhaust fan.

Five fans, the rest are shrouds to help reduce noise and increase flow.

On another note, all three intake fans are on variable settings from 800rpm to 1600rpm depending on temp.

It's very quiet.

Thanks for replies.

Ordered it along with 2 Viper Ultras. Is it generally considered an absolute must to remove the stock thermal paste?? I do have some AS5 kicking about somewhere...so can put some of that on.

I've got mine like Hotwired (same case as well :D):

Ignore the messy cabling down at the bottom and the tilted fan, I was doing some rejiggling in the case.

After I moved the H50 to the top front I suddenly realised I had no where to put my other 2 HDD's.

Hence I sold all my small storage disks and changed it to a single 2GB, which now sits down in the 5.25" bay.

It's all super tidy in there now. Honest!!!

Anywho, working as an intake the H50 is superb.

I've got the Apache fans on the H50 hooked up the CPU-PWM header using one of these:

Akasa PWM Splitter Cable

Lets all the fans be controlled and synced by the PWM control on the mobo. Works a treat.

For a second fan on the H50 what screws do i need for the second fan pls?

Just use 2 of the screws you get with it.

I have mine set up so 2 screws (diagonal corners) in first fan, then 2 screws opposite corners on the 2nd fan.

Works perfectly :)

Thanks nice idea but not very secure to use on the back exhaust of a case I really wouldnt want to risk holding the weight of it there on 2 screws thanks though.

I think I used normal, short, HDD screws there with some rubber washers to make sure they didn't go too far through.

Requires you to assemble the radiator stack outside the case using a screwdriver going through the hole on the other side of the fan to turn the screws.

It's solid as a rock. And you'll find the H50 rad isn't actually that heavy.

I've had it attached like that for a year now, and the case has been moved around to and from LANs several times and it hasn't budged an inch.

I used to have it on the exhaust myself until I moved it to the front, and it was just as secure there. :)

My understanding is because it is a totally closed system it doesn't suffer from any real evapoation.

The tubing is the main culprit for evaporation.

That's why they are that corrugated type, it's a lower evaporation type than the usual smooth walled stuff apparently.
