*Sorry if this is the wrong section, i put this in the HDD section but thought it could be here too*

Hey everyone I'm looking to upgrade my PS3 HDD but I'm unsure on what to get.

I want to stick with a 5400rpm drive and stay away from WD as the head parking "click" drives me nuts.

I'm looking at this but unsure as the seek time is 0.14 instead of 0.12 like on most. Also i have heard some horror storys about Seagates lately, does anyone know if any problems have plagued these drives specifically?

Fairly sure all new PS3's come with seagates as standard. I have replaced both my PS3's with seagates and they have worked fine so far.

if you can find a good 16mb cache drive then all the better, nott much point on a faster drive but the cache is well known to help as many ps3 titles (that arent shoddy multiplatform ports) use a lot of streaming.

You don't get the option of anything other than a format, no quick or full. Older model PS3's will do a format and everything will be hunky dorey but newer models require you to have firmware to hand on a USB flash drive.

It doesw a quick format by default, but I did a full format on mine anyway. It took about 20.5 hours for my 320GB drive.

the extra heat may be a slight issue

I can't picture this being any different on a PS3, but when I changed the hard drive in my M1710 before it was stolen, I swaped it from a 5400.2 160GB to a 7K200 200GB and there was a whole 1 degree in temps and half the booting time. My 7200.2 200GB loads every PSN game much quicker than everyone else.

On the official forums, one user did some reasonable in depth tests between a 5400 and a 7200 rpm drive. The difference was barely noticeable and not worth the extra money.

I'm surprised no one, or at least not that I've read/seen, tried a Velociraptor in there. The difference in speed will be slightly higher but then it would be complete waste being stuck in a PS3, not to mention the lower £/Gb ratio :)
