I have a maximum budget of £60 for a pair of headphones to use with my Sony Pocket Vaio. My only requirement is that they must be canal type earphones.

Are the Shure E2C's (Black) the best available within this price bracket?

Also what are peoples opinions on the Shure E2C's?

Westone UM1 are better than the shure. The e2c sound a bit like down a tube (which it is lol). The have rolled back treble and bass does not really extend. They are not a bad canal phone but there are better out there!

Finally got an account here so Hi everyone.

If you are after canal headphones then I think the Shures are very good headphones for clarity (you hear things like people speaking between songs that you don't normally here), and the bass is tight enough if you use the foam earbuds. Unfortunately I have the E3c phones so I can't give you a direct comparison. If you could stretch slightly you may be able to find E3cs somewhere for around £75 or so.

A lot of people recommend the sony ex71s but I've had two pairs in the past and they aren't great...but cheap.

If you want excellent sound quality then "proper" headphones are the way to go. I have a pair of Koss Porta Pros which are superb and I managed to get them for around £30.

Welcome to the Boards Sol

The e3c have much better treble and tighter bass then e2 - but can lack bass thump big time - you really need a bassy souce so if you have an iPod that your stumped...

The UM1's are very similar to e3's if closer to e4's but much more bassy - maybe not so clear in treble.

I perfer the warmer Westone sound over cold shure sound.

The E3 from Shure is prob the best ones listed here, having tried a number of canal in-ear phones they are better than the Etymotic ER-6i plugs

I have no idea on the ones you purchased though, funny enough the E3 were listed from a UK seller on an auction site for £60 just a few days ago. Brand new too and they didnt sell. (I was considering buying but purchased a holiday a few wks before)

M'well, the Shure and Etys have pretty polarising sound signature, so it is a bit harder to tell which one is better than the other in the same class. There are certainly many folks prefering the ER4 to the E5.

Anyway, enjoy your purchase :)
