Hey all

I'm looking at buying a new headset for online gaming. My previous logitech headset just gave out on me.

I've got about £50 to spend, and i need something comfy with a mic. Not too bothered about surroundsound, as the sound on my previous ones were fine.

Any reccomendations?

theres a tonne of threads like these, look around, medusas if you want poor built quality but surround sound, sennheisers if you want build quality and music quality that means, medusa or pc 135, or you could go for the headphones/desktop mic option which imo is better value for money and get some sennheiser hd485/515/555 and a cheap desktop mic

just to give you a good quick answer, if you are gonna spend some decent cash, get the razor baracuda headset. i got it, amazing :D

I've got some sennheiser mX55's for my iRiver, and i must say theyre the best in-ear headphones i've used.

How do people rate the Sennheiser PC150 Headset?

Thanks

i've got the Sennheiser PC150 Headset and its great!!! the sound is very clear, and the mic is very good too.
Its the best headset i've had!! :D

i got mine today..sound amazing in bf2142.
however i "think" i may have a problem...
..i say "may" becouse the problem is when im using teamspeak, although i can hear my friends as if theyre next to me and my voice quality to them is outstanding too, whenever they talk, they get an echo of their own voices back.
also, they can sometimes hear what im doing in game ie.. driving a tank and blowing something up.

any ideas??
my sound card is a x-fi exteme music and the jack plugs are connected directly to the card.

please help anyone.

got the razer hp1s aswell very good i was in the proxess of selling them becuase they were hurting my ears becuase they are pretty heavy but they are ok now.

IMO you can't really go wrong with some Steelsound 5h's or the new 5h V2's, if you look at most proffesional gaming teams they will be using these.

** if you don't believe me google "NiP or ninja's in pyjamas" or "complexity gaming"

if u have enabled wave playback (go to sound and audio and open the recording contol in the advanced options of the audio device) if this is enabled it will play through your mic the sounds you are hearing in your pc.

To expand on what Deonilin said, basically you can set a number of different number of inputs for playback (what you hear), record (what others hear).

You should be able to double click on the speaker icon in the sys tray and click on properties. Here you can select which inputs to select for Playback and which for Record.

In this case, I would select *mic* only and then all your mates will hear is your voice. This is how people annoying playing music over comms, they include wav input and everyone on the server (like HL/HL2) gets to hear it >:(

PC150 are great for a gaming headset. Good quality.

Otherwise, I'd recommend Sennheiser HD280Pros for £65 off a famous auction house, and a desktop mic, the quality on the HD280 pros is excelent, they're intended as studio cans.

My Medusas just snapped so I'm thinking of getting either the pc150s or the HD485s. How's the bass of the HD485s or the PC150s compare to the medusas? Do they rumble in movies when there are big explosions and what not like the medusas do?

stuff about properties and wave input!
Nice stuff, didn't realise you could do that.
Last time I used TS2 was racing online on GTL with mates, who kept pointing out JUST HOW LOUD! my car was :D

Medusa's break way too easily, myself and several of my friends have noticed this after a few months of use, I think only one outta four is still operational, so I definitely wouldn’t recommend them.

My next set will probably be some HD555's with a clip on mic, makes sense as the mic always seems the first to go and apparently the sound you get with the HD555's is sooo much better than any of the surround headsets, best price I've found is £55.

If you dont wanna go for that get the Steelsound 5h v2's as someone else said.

basically medusas fall apart so get sennheiser.

for someone above the hd485s bass is pretty good, a good step up from my hd 202's anyway. not tried movies yet but in a game when the nvidia logo comes up it has like a cinema sound and it sounds great =]

overall its money very well spent.
