Hi,

The company I work for are looking for software to help audit 110 PC's on our network. Main reason for this is to make sure we are complying with our software licenses.

I've just started to look at all the software listed below but we have a budget of about £1000 and I'm not sure which software to go with.

Visual Audit X3
Express Inventory
Novell ZENworks Asset Management
Centennial Discovery
GASP Standard v7
SAM in a box
Numara Asset Manager
Alloy Network Inventory
Sitekeeper 3.5 Inventory/Licence Compliance Module
NEWT Professional 3.0
iInventory LANauditor
LANsurveyor
BelManage
Altiris Inventory Solution

Anyone used a particular software and found it to be good?

Thanks

I used to use ocs inventory at my previous company a few years back with about 250 machines. Its free i think (or was)! Used to run unobtrusively as part of the users login batch file each day & gave us all the infomation we required.

We tested a program called SpiceWorks which is free and does really nice audits as well as letting you log faults too.

I also have had experience with OCS Inventory, it worked a treat :)

That was until we got forced to change and rollout Altiris. I can tell you we've had nothing but problem after problem with Altiris. I'm sure when it works it must be great, but still personally preferred using OCS.

Oh and to be honest, Altiris will probably cost way more than the budget you have available, so I wouldn't even look at it.

have experience of Alloy inventory, Asset navigator for the last 3 years. It very good allowing a script to run in the background on remote machines logging software/hardware installed. Asset Navigator also comes with a very good helpdesk package which allows our end users to log tickets.

Not sure how much it is but Centennial Discovery was the one we used and it was very good. Basically deploys a client to the PC and monitors all software and hardware available on the machine along with the usage. You can also add fields such as Asset Tag.
