Best joystick for FSX for £50?

I had a saitek yoke before, which I was pretty disappointed with as it felt like it had big deadspots. However in hindsight, the fact that I was playing a on a laptop with low FPS could have been a fairly big factor. Anyway, now I have got a proper desktop pc to play it on so hopefully the game will be a lot more playable. As I returned my saitek yoke, I was wondering if anyone could recommend a joystick for £50 or under? Thanks

Killianzz,

My personal experience with Saitek has been very good, I currently have the Pro Flight Yoke System (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GC-044-SK&groupid=702&catid=288&subcat=352) which is great!

If you were looking for one under £50 I would suggest the Thrustmaster T-Flight Joystick (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GC-027-TH&groupid=702&catid=288&subcat=352).

The reason I suggest this is due to it having a separate throttle control which is great for controlling small speed adjustments.

I have no personal experience with this joystick however I have heard good things.

Thanks

Does your yoke have big dead zones? Mine had about an inch/inch and a half dead zone for pitch and a smaller dead zone for ailerons. It also had a tendency to 'stick' slightly when adjusting pitch. Maybe my one was just a dud., but I did read somewhere about saitek bearing issues, shame for me really as it would be nice to have a decent yoke. That thrustmaster is one of the joysticks I am looking at, so i'll definitly bear in mind that you've heard good things about it - thanks! I don't suppose you've had any experience with the x52? If it was absolutely spectacular then I would consider spending the extra £30 or so over my budget. I really cannot wait to see FSX shine on my new system, GTX 570 graphics card should do it some justice :)

I just got the Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas X and I think it's great. Obviously something like the X-52 would be best for FSX, but I think the Thrustmaster puts up a good fight for the price.

The throttle is nice and big (but not as resistant as the X-52 throttle) and there are 12 buttons with a rocker switch on the back of the throttle for rudder if you want to lock the stick.

My only negative point is the cable that connects the throttle and flight stick is quite short so be careful if you plan on putting a large keyboard between them.

The joystick I had previously was the X52 and that was a great joystick - no dead spots and the throttle was great for maintaining speeds manually.

The only reason I upgraded to my current was that I wanted a more 'airliner' type set up - which did take a while to get used to.

I would spend the extra and go for the X52 as mentioned above.

Thanks

I would avoid the Cyborg FLY 5, having owned one, there is too much of a deadzone. There is quite a lot of play where the actual shaft meets the base, so making fine adjustments to your plane/helicopter is tricky. Its not great.

You can get a Thrustmaster T.16000M for close to the same price and it blows the cyborg out the water. Very accurate and feels spot on.

2nd'd re the T.16000m.
I own the x52 pro,the ch fighter stick,ch pro throttle and ch rudder pedals and the tflight hostas x.

for COD and WOP I prefer the T.16000m and use it

T.16000M, tflight hotas and the x52; 3 great options - thanks. Just need to decide whether or not to fork out for the x52, unfortunately it may come at the expense of an SSD for my pc. Thanks for all your input, im sure I would be happy with all of your recommendations!

Sorry to bump this thread, but I just found out that I get free gym membership next year so.... time for some self indulgence :D Would the x52 still be the best joystick for a £100 budget? Is the pro really worth the extra or should I be looking at a different brand?

Go to curry's/pcworld and try the joysticks there, they actually now stock the x52 and the flight sim thingy majig

I've recently aquired a thrustmaster t flight hotas x...

I think its good and well worth what ocuk are charging. The throttle has an annoying snag when it gets to 50%, just don't find it very useful. Also the stick can be adjusted for stiffness (ooo-err) but even at maximum stiffness (ahem) I found it a bit light and hollow in my hands.

Got no other problems to report, I would say for someone undergoing their first forays into flight simming its perfect. For someone whom flight simming is their main game genre, I would go for something more advanced.

I've used it mainly in FSX and it works well in that.
