Basically I'm moving from North Wales to Manchester to train to be a Ambulance Tech/Para.

I'm going to need a laptop for all the 'home' course work I will have, probably will need carrying around from course to course, and just general browsing, would we handy to have a good screen for watching BBC iPlayer, DVD's, 720 avi's etc, as my main rig will be staying at home until I get a place to live in three months time, as I'll be living in a small room for three months

I've had a £600 donation from a family member to get me started, I could add £200 if need be from my own money, but to be honest it seems pretty much £600 is overkill, but I might as well spent that amount and make it a bit more future proof.

I've more or less narrowed it down to a XPS 1530 or a Vostro 1510, but not sure which one best serves my need and the future proofing part. So any suggestions would be great.

Cheers for the first fast response ( ambulance joke :p ) .
I did have my eye on the 1530's, my only slight concern is the only laptops I use one is a 17" screen and the other a 19", with my home rig screen being a 24" dell. I'm assuming 15.4" is pretty good, as I'm pretty certain I'll opt for a truelife if the option is there, but not touching the 1920 res as it's pretty shocking on a 15.4!

NWAS have changed the name's now from techs to Career Ambulance staff due to their desire to get CAS to progress onto the role of Para, probably as there starting to phase out tech for other bands of workers due to the nature and targets of calls. It's going to be a long slog but the money is good and it's what I've always wanted to do, sadly the Welsh AS are muppets trying to get into, but once I have tech qualis I can move back pretty easily, that being my plan!
