Hi guys. I’m looking for a laptop as I’ll be working away from home soon so I need my fix of EQ2 lol. What’s best laptop out there? Seen the Alienware area 51m just wondered what your thoughts are as I’m a total noob on laptops.

much appreciated

Its the only one out there for true desktop gaming as it is one. If you want any info just ask as I have the big one! I got £600.00 odd of mine which helps a little.

Think I’d opt for the Aorus 17X over the Alienware. It can be ran with one power brick as well without much of a hit to performance.

Any info or tips would be greatly appreciated. I did hear about some sort of Throttling problem but not sure if it was just rubbish talking. Also how did you get 600 off. I would love that. Lol

Got the money off when R2 vision was realised, I just asked. With a combination of its own overclocking and Intel extreme overclocking utility you can eliminate any throttling by undervolting and changing individual core speeds.
There's loads of headroom in the GPU to overclock as well , was very surprised just how much.

Nice that m8. Looks like my spec when I looked on dells web site, I just had 64g ram though. Did you get it direct from dell?

Yes I can give you the guys email address if you have one so you can hound him for the same discount or better. The 64g gig ram one has a lower Mhz speed if I remember.

Any mobile workstation basically does it. Minimum of 32 GB of RAM though and 2 TB SSD for comfort.
I mean both the top end 17X and Alienware A51m have a RTX 2080 Super, both have 2 power bricks, but the 17X performs better than the Alienware when they are both only using 1 power brick.

What’s the reliability like on the Aorus? I’ve had an Alienware for years now, taking it all over the world and it has been flawless.

Totally depends on your budget. If money is no object then as above but I do think Alienware charge a lot for the name though considering HP Omen do 10th gen i9 with the 2080 Super for less than £2500.
At this point if that’s your budget I’d be tempted to wait for Easter when it’s likely the 3000 series cards will hit top end gaming machines so seems little point shelling out £3k plus now

I would second Jim. The HP 17s are much better value and come with full Max P 150w GPUs (a bit lower than the Alienware but still way higher than any MaxQ variant) and with the 30 series mobile chips and Intel and AMDs new chips coming you would be better waiting a few months.

I've had mine for over a year at this point, but I wouldn't be buying now unless I had to, even if I'd reached my usual/preferred upgrade window.

From what I heard ( an unofficial information from one of the laptops reseller) the laptops with 3000 RTX series will be introduced around end of January beginning of February in Europe. Don't know how about Uk and whether Brexit won't delay the cross bordering. Tests have to be run though in terms of maximum TDP in GPU's and stuff like that...
Considering they’re not made in the EU then I don’t think we will see an impact. Hopefully...
