Best laptop for web/gfx/design - £1,500-£2,000

Just as the title reads. I've looked at the MacBook Pro - the uber model with NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT but so far I've been unable to convince myself to buy one!

Is the price justified? What are the alternatives (checked out the Area-51 which is a bit of a beast, a little too macho if you know what I mean!).

Any and all ideas/suggestions welcome.

Had a look at Dells? I have a inspiron 1720 and its fantastic. Good spec as well. I got:

Core 2 Duo 2.2gig
2 gig Ram
160gig Hdd
17" Truelife 1900*1200 Screen
8600M GT

Does just about anything I have thrown at it so far

Got it for £999

Get the 7950GTX g/card instead. Far better.

Look at the dell M1710's, awesome machines.

Just checked Dell's web site and seen the m1730 XPS machine - and what a machine it is.
SLI'd DX10 gfx and PhysX in a laptop - crikey! And £70 cheaper than the MacPro.

As I'm sure you've already guessed I will be gaming on it as well as working

I went for the m1710 over the m1730 simply as the 7950 eats the 8 series mobile cards alive...

You lot are aware that gaming graphics arnt really all that good at graphics work?

I'd recommend one of the high end thinkpads, the following two will fit your needs well:
ATI FireGL Based
nVidia QuadroFX Based

Both have more graphics orientated gfx chips in, high res displays, 2Gb ram, dual cores & 100Gb HDDs.
