Best LCD for PS3 £700

Panasonic 37 or if poss 42 PX80.

Will be far superior to any LCD in this area for fluid movement, picture quality, and especially for movies. LCDs just don't handle the movement as well as plasma because of the input lag !

Samsung LCDs have some annoy niggles, do some reading up, quality control isn't great either.

whats up with the 2 sony 40" the D3500 -£650 and the V3000? - £700 both 1080p and both claim 24fps/1080p with blu ray much like my own tv expect for native 1080p my brother has the v3000 and plays games/videos great.
But as others state any worrys about sd quality and fluid motion plasmas are known for being above lcd in that department but im unsure how a scaled 1080p signal on a plasma looks like and dont forget plasmas suffer from screen burn in their early usage periods.

Our plasma tv seems to suffer screen burn pretty badly. Is there anyway to avoid this?

If its burned then its permanent. What you are seeing is retention unless you let it on the news channels all day and night. Plasmas don't suffer screenburn unless you really abuse them and leave static images on for many hours, i reckon it could be up to a day or so, but no tests have ever been carried out for obvious reasons.

1080p isn't really important unless you are sitting within 5ft of a 42 set for example, your eyes won't have the resolution to see the differences. PQ means more than just 1080p 24fps etc.

So its safe for me to leave the ps3 on screen when its updating itself, because you can see it after just doing that and i was :( I've killed nearly four figures worth of parental tv ;)

ive seen hd content and console gaming on plasma and lcd...lcd was better.
i know all above are saying different but lcd's give a sharper & more accurate picture which does look better.

plasma's do have far superior response times but if you get a decent lcd then its not really important.

as for 720p & 1080p ...there is a clear difference when playing console games....with hd content its barely noticeable.

but you will need a decent lcd for that otherwise stick to plasma,

*edit* how much difference you see between 720p & 1080p will depend on screen size

Lol sharper picture they give, but that certainly isn't more accurate, common misconception with LCDs. Colour and sharpness = better......... NOES.

ALL LCDS handle fluid motion a lot worse than even a mid range plasma like the panasonics.

And how far you sit from the screen. I chose my kuro (720p) over the 1080p panasonic PZ even after hooking up my PS3 in store to both tvs. The picture on the kuro was soo much more natural, and the difference between 1080p and 720p was very minor. If you compare a non-1080p samsung against a 1080p one then of course the 1080p one will be better, but both will have a very average picture.

Don't worry Ive done that whilst updateing MGO in that big 1st patch using P2P for about 2 hours by mistake. No retention on mine let alone scrrenburn. Even if you get some image retention for a short while itl go away over the course of minutes/hours. You would really have to leave a static image on for a long long time, but the contrast settings on the tv if too high will also contribute.

Trust me don't worry....What plasma do you have.

the difference between 720p and 1080p in games isnt minor on a LCD...it will be less noticeable on a plasma since it isnt as sharp.

try changing resolution (in-game)on your monitor and tell me you dont see a difference...sure on a t.v you would be sat further back but the t.v would also be a lot bigger.

we play games on consoles a fair bit on either a plasma or LCD the LCD is clearly better for gaming....we have 1 LG plasma, 1 Panasonic plasma and 1 Sharp lcd.....the 3 are in a similar price bracket(the lcd being the most expensive) so its fair to do a comparison between the 3.

HD content from what ive seen the lcd is better.

sd content out of the box the plasma t.v's were clearly better but after some tweaking i got the lcd to look pretty good....im not advising someone to go out and buy a Sharp lcd as their quality control leaves a lot to be desired... in the uk especially as so many people seem to be getting bad panels.

if someone wanted a t.v for everyday use then i would recommend a plasma as what they would be watching most the time is SD content and also they would need a higher priced lcd to compete with a lower priced plasma but for console gaming and HD content i find from experience the lcd is clearly the better choice.

Hey thanks for the reply and putting my mind at rest, its not even a particularly good tv I don't think - 42" LG I just know they got took to the cleaners when they paid for it! :) I think I'm going to have to go back to good old box tv when GTA is released though, not enough tv sharing time for me to play it

Input lag is an issue that isn't really relevant to the picture quality. Plasmas also suffer from it, the more processing things going on generally will add to the lag.
