Hello all! Along time since i have ventured in here to post!

I have just got a Apple Dual G5 2.0Ghz Mac and it has a 9600pro card in it! I will primarily be using this mac for Sound Engineering using Pro Tools and have ordered a M-Audio Audiophile 192 sound card for it already. I may not game on it but wouldn't mind having a better graphics card in it for graphics applications or games.

I have been wondering what AGP card for this is the best, i have seen a X800 for the mac but is this the best?

Im not sure what is the best nvidia card either!

Thanks in advance!

Josh

To be fair not many people have Macs here, does the G5 have a standard AGP port? If so the best AGP graphics card you can get is the X1950pro or not quite as good is the 7800gs(ideally a Gainward one as they have 7900gt cores). However I don't know if you need either special drivers or if they somehow have special hardware entirely for Macs. :)

//edit I'd assume Concorde Rules knows what he is talking about so go with that advice. It does seem to conflict with the point of an AGP standard though, why have something to make all hardware compatible if a different platform but using the same standard won't work?

I think the differences with pc agp and mac agp cards is that you can power a monitor through a special DVI port on the back of the card.

Thanks for reaffirming my thoughts!

Im not an Apple-Hater or anything, but is there actually anything out for mac that a 9600pro cant handle well? (especially on a dual G5 rig)

AFAIK the best Mac AGP card is the X800 with 256 MiB GDDR3. After this generation they switched the Powermacs to PCI-e. The best PCI-e cards are the X1900s or perhaps the Quadro FX 4500, depending on what you were doing.
