Best MacBook Pro alternative

Hi All,

My current laptop is currently packing up and I have started looking for a replacement. As part of my search I started looking at the MacBook Pro range, whilst I love the build quality of the MacBooks I’m not sure I can justify the high price point.

So my question is what are the best/main PC competitors to the MacBook range? Do any manufacturers provide ranges which consistently have that type of high-end build quality?

The only range I have come across so far is the HP Envy range. Does anyone have any experience with these systems?

Thanks for any advice

Dell XPS 15Z or 14Z is a much cheaper lookalike.

Especially if you buy from the outlet.

The MacBook Air is a little easier of the pocket if you still want something similar.

They're pretty quick also as they come with an SSD.

I would keep saving for a MBP without checking does the Envy even have a optical drive? Also from what I can remember it has nothing on the battery life of a MBP.

Hello,

I'm in a similar position, pretty close to buying a 15" MacBook Pro but do feel the need to fully asses the alternatives. I'm looking for a solid, high quality, high performance laptop that will last for ~5 years.

So the 15" Mac Pro is £1,332.00 from the education store (2.2 i7, 4GB, 1,440x900...)

Compared with the XPS 15z at £899 (2.4 i5, 4GB, 1920x1080...)
Or the XPS 15z at £1195 (2.8 i7, 8GB...)

The Dell does make the Mac Pro look expensive. However - the Apple comes with 3 years AppleCare, adding the 3 year support package on the Dell is an extra £265 which seems to tip things back into Apple's favour.

The Samsung Series 7 is another option... any opinions?
