I've read through rjkoneill's Keyboard Guide, and have tried to then choose a keyboard. I am looking for a mechanical keyboard, from the guide I imagine a Cherry MX Black switch keyboard would be the best choose for FPS gamer?

What keyboards would people recommend? Is the Cherry MX Black the way to go? I'm not overly worried about extra keys for macros/extra screens.... my main consideration is how it operates playing games

Thanks

I found my 7G w/blacks to be too tiring after long gaming sessions, I ended up using a Razer board w/blues and love it.

If you've never used on before, I strongly suggest you find a way to try out some in person before you buy.

I bought one of the Corsair keyboards (K70) and had some of the LEDs die on me, after some research it seems like this is a common problem so my advice is to avoid them at all costs.

I picked the Cherry MX Reds they seem to be the best balance for gaming and typing, I really like them. My suggestion would be to pick a better and more reliable brand than Corsair, I've read the Ducky Range are good, when I replace my broken Corsair it might be a Ducky.

I recommend Cherry Red's, feel great to game on and still fine to type with. Ducky boards are obviously the most expensive but I would highly recommend a Aivia Osmium if you're after blue backlighting.

My first mechanical was a SteelSeries 6GV2... A keyboard I wouldn't recommend for a lot of reasons! But, it did have blacks, which I thought were lovely, and it was a pass me down.

Since upgrading to a Filco Majestouch that has browns, I struggle to use the 6GV2 for even a short time. Blacks were certainly better than membrane keys, but not a touch on the Browns. I haven't tested all of the switches, but I'd urge you to do so before buying... The improvement over the blacks was night and day for me, and I regret having stuck with the 6GV2 for so long.

I am currently using a Logitech g710+. My first mech KGB and I'm very happy with it. Lovely to use in bf3/4 for me. In fact it is everything I felt the G19s should have been, minus the screen.

Believe the g710+ uses brown switches but not 100% on that.

A vote here for the brown switches. Lovely to type on, nice feedback and not too stiff nor too light.

I have a QPAD MK-85 and I love it.

Just purchased a Logitech G110 and it's superb. I was using a filco tkl with browns and as mentioned above it's gorgeous to type on but not so good with fps games (for me). I didn't realise this until switched temporary to a blue tooth keyboard. Kill ratio has now gone up which is nice.
