Best media player under £400

I want a device for long distance journeys, watch a few films and what not on the 3H trains as I can never sleep anyway nor do any work.

What devices have a screen superior than the iPad 4 (refurb around that price) for up to £400. I want to get immersed in movies and maybe offline gaming. If that's as good as it gets, price-screen quality wise, then I will probably get a lightning USB and load that up with movies - would that work too?

Galaxy Tab S2? AMOLED screen and perhaps the best screen you can get in the tablet space. Comes in 8" or 9.7" depending on what size you prefer.

Although perhaps finding the first Tab S could be better, the screen is just as brilliant but with better battery life.

Both has a microSD card slot for extra storage so you won't need a USB flash drive.
