Does the manufacturer of the memory itself make a difference for ryzen 2? In other words should I be looking for Samsung memory in preference to any others?

Strongly recommend the 8-Pack TeamGroup Dark Pro memory, the 3200Mhz CL14 version is the best.

Otherwise look for Samsung B-Die but make sure you go for the lowest latency possible for the speed. Generally CL14 will be the best binned Samsung B-Die.
If you want RGB the G.Skill Trident Z RGB or Corsair Vengeance Pro RGB and get CL14 if 3200Mhz, or CL16 if it’s a higher frequency.
