I have been experiencing ram problems (G.Skill 4GB DDR2 PQ PC2-8000C5 (2x2GB)), with my overclocked cpu running at 8 x 450 on the P5Q Pro, it just won't go above 900 Prime stable.

I've looked on the Asus and G.Skill forums and notice that there have been a few problems with G.Skill and the Asus boards.

As a result, I'm returning the ram and am looking for some that definitely runs at 1000+ using the 450fsb.

Cheers.

Your problem sounds similar to mine, my set of OCZ will not go above 800mhz, one more notch and my sytem fails.

Annoying isn't it, I can overclock the hell out of the E6750, but no joy hitting stock with the ram.

I'm leaning towards the Black Dragon, which I was going to get in the first place, although the Corsair seems to be getting good reviews, so I'll wait until tomorrow to place the order.

I didn't mean to come across as rude there mate, just frustrated at how many people are having memory problems with this memory and mobo combination. Thanks for your input.:)

Anyone else have any ram doing the business in the P5Q Pro??

I have the p5q deluxe - pretty similar. Despite some recent memtest problems (see other thread on here!), my 4gb corsair kit and a 2gb g.skill kit(both pc-8500 1066 Mhz RAM) both run fine on the board at stock speeds, although granted i am not pushing FSBs as high as 500 (have not really OCed memory at all). If you look on xtremesystems, most people using the p5qs seem to be using either the dominators or one of the g.skill kits, and a few using the black dragon. Since some of those guys push things pretty hard, so i would imagine any of those kits would be up to the job. I think the newest BIOS by asus (ver 14xx) seem to have fixed quite a few problems with memory. There are also BIOSes modded by Ket (available on XS) that seem to have given a lot of people good results and fixed memory compatibility issues, although i am not brave enough to try!

I've downloaded one of the modded bios' and am also rather scared of giving them a go, but I think I might give it a try tomorrow, because I should be also to flash back to the Asus one if it goes wrong.

The problem is that the ram doesn't really overclock and if on an FSB of 450, the only options in the bios are 900 or 1081+, so the G.Skill will only work on 900, maybe the modded bios might give me more options, which would be great.

I am running one of the M BIOS off XS on my P5Q-Dlx no issues should shouldnt be a problem!

I have to say that I have had no problems with my OCZ 9600 had them up to around 1125mhz

not so much trouble with the ram but the overclocking of the CPU I think, RAM is happy to boot at 510 but the cpu cant cope and linpack residuals go wonky :(
9*444 is about the max the CPU will do before I need to drop the multi ><

I've come to the decision that I can now return the ram and get some proper PC2-8500 ram, probably costing me another £30, or stick with what I have and just accept the loss of 100Mhz.

Would I really notice much difference between the 900Mhz and 1066Mhz, if the answer is no, then I'll be happy with my 3.6Ghz and 900Mhz running at 31c idle and 58c load, which doesn't seem a bad thing really, I suppose.

A quick edit - I think I'm going to stick with what I have now, after five weeks of defective mobos and ram, I've had enough and will tolerate the loss of 100Mhz and you never know, Asus may allow for the running of 1000Mhz in a future bios, but I won't count my chickens though.

I've not noticed any difference in performance between running the RAM at stock on a divider or runnning it 1:1 during normal useage tbh Big Kev.

You wont really see any difference other than data throughput during benching I would think. Only reason I put it down to 1:1 is thats what Im led to believe can make OCing stable without worrying about dividers.

The options you had:

900 or 1081

1:1 and then a divider but thats damn close to 1066 so should be fine

As I don't want to lose my 450 x 8 overclock, the only options open to me are the 900 or 1081, so I've no choice but to stick with 900, as 1081 is a no go.

just got my dominator memory today
off this week only [great deal]

set it to its rated values - without the fan thing on

put my cpu at 3.4ghz and upped the vcore a bit

done - prime stable
sorted

get that

Just install the modded BIOS from Ket. My friends one has been rock solid since installing his latest version and before then it was a nightmare board.
