I’ve just bought a 5820k and x99 board and wanted to grab 32gb of ddr4 to go with it.

I’ve seen 4x8gb sticks of 2666mhz cas16, 1.2 volt Corsair vengeance for a good price and was thinking with some extra volts I could shoot for lower latencies as with the quad channel I’d probably have enough bandwidth already?

Does that sound like a plan??

See now you've put a spanner in the works, it looks pretty good as well. I've left the vengeance for now (the auction ran out) and will keep an eye out for some trident z

Yes, don't worry too much - but G.SKILL are a solid option on X99 due to the hand binning. Never had any issues with CPU not running off the bat with those kits.

3200 is the highest ratio you'll be able to hit, but if you're on the latest firmware it's still the strongest ratio above 2400 for compatibility. It's just how those CPUs are wired, a lot of the ratios between are still messed up for some CPU. Tuning of VCCSA voltage is essential, though (if auto rules are unstable).

Hmm £400 for the 32gb is out if my budget though. I have some (4x4) value sticks that will do 2400mhz at the moment, and wanted more for bf v hopefully to smooth out the hitches (I think it’s a windows 10 problem) if I went for 16gb of g-skill 3200mhz would I notice the bump from 2400 do you think? I suppose I could try them out at the rainforest and see...

One more thing do any of the LED/rub kits work with x99??

I got some c15 3000mhz Corsair LED 2nd hand in the end. I was playing around with it tonight and cpu-z said it was Samsung IC. It now running 14-14-14-36 at 3200mhz at 1.45v (though I’m going to get that down).

bit of a result I think. I think the rest of the timings are a bit flabby though. Are there any good guides to 2nd and third timings out there?
