I know this thread is a little stupid for this kind of discussion forum, but there are lots of smart people here (well, a few!) and i wondered what they thought the best method for putting in a shower tray is.

So far, it seems to be the following:

  • Using four adjustable "legs" and a plastic panel to hide them
  • Using large wooden battens and putting the tray directly onto them with a wooden panel to hide the mess
  • Using large wooden battens, fixing plywood to the top of them and placing the shower tray on that with a wooden panel to hide the mess
  • Using large wooden battens, fixing plywood to the top of it then using concrete to bed in the tray with a wooden panel to hide the mess

I like how straight forward the first option is, but is it the best method?

Thanks.

option 4.

At least thats what both the plumbers who've fitted my shower trays have done.
Although I'm not sure about any battens, cement was involved.

Option 2 is quite sufficient, just use a bit of gripfill on top of the battens (by batten i mean 4"x2" timber) to stop any movement.

Nope, I'm pretty sure the most stupid question I've seen on here was something like "How do I cook baked beans?":D

Nah, i motors we've just had "how do i put petrol in my car?"

No, option 1 is fine.

I used metal bath legs and plastic cladding cut in half. You'll need noggins for the cladding but it looks good. Plus you have relatively easy access if there any leaks in future.

Depends how the trap/waste pipe runs I suppose, if its dropping straight under floor boards and away then a frame around the outer sides of the tray would be fine, if the waste pipe had to run out the side / into some boxing in, then just run the frame around the sides, but leave a section cut out :)

We're getting a plumber come round, but i don't think he'll build the base for me, just wanted to find out what methods were available and what people recommended...
