Me again!

I have a laptop on the go and i keep needing to upload or download files that are stored on the server at home. I was going to use third party software like FileZilla but I would prefer a built in Windows method if it's more straightforward.

Thanks.

I think whatever you use your going to need physical access to your server to set it up. If your on site then Dropbox/Onedrive etc should do it.
If you can gain access from outside without allowing it server side then so can a hacker

Run a VPN and file server on your network.

That give you native file management with no additional client tooling (other than VPN client, which is built into windows I think anyway).

You simply mount a network drive once connected to your VPN.

there are things like AnyDesk / TeamViewer to simulate the physical access.

if your happy to self host then rustdesk as an exmlple, with a control/relay node in the cloud.

use the above with onedrive as well.

onedrive vs vpn : if the conenction drops on vpn then you might need to start over. with onedrive the sync may lose a few bytes of date but it will pick up from were you got of.

could look at something like "NextCloud" "Syncthing"
were you control a lot more and only what you want leaves the network. use inconjunction with vpn.

how much do you want to learn and tinker with vs "it just works" style approach
