Hi Guys,

Can anyone help to spec me the best mid range graphics card that gives the best bang for buck? preferably around the £140 mark? I've not really been keeping up with the scene, so i can't really see whether for example the GTX 560 is a better choice, or if I should go for something along the lines of the 6870?

cheers!

As above, great bang for buck and will give more expensive cards a good run for their money, especially when/ if high overclocks can be achieved, though like anything in this game, the level of overclock differs from card to card.

I'll be looking at upgrading the rest of my computer as well, primarily for gaming... although i'll be keeping the 675W PSU i'm currently using!

are the 6850/6950 considered better than the Nvidia equivalent GTX560'S? I'm seeing very mixed reviews

Yes. AMD > Nvidia at everything under the 670 pretty much. I'd go for the Vtx3d 7850 on special offer today personally.

For ~£180, the 7850 is about the best. It offers great performance at resolutions up to 1920x1200, sips energy, and offers monsterous overclocking headroom. Overclocked, this card matches GTX580 performance, but uses almost half of the power. Get the Spahhire or MSI versions as they also run cool and quietish.

The above 6950 Looks like a nice card... although any idea why I cant find any reviews on that one specifically? and nowhere but overclockers and about one other store seem to stock it

What brand is your PSU by the way? Cause 675W is not a very usualy output for PSU.

As for graphic card, 6850 is on par with GTX460, where as the 6950 is on par with the GTX560Ti. However the non-Ti version of the GTX560 is SLOWER than 6950.

I wouldn't spend £160 on a 6950 when you can get a 7850 for a very little bit more money. Out of the box performance for both cards is pretty similar, but the 7850 overclocks MUCH further and requires significantly less power.

hah, thats just made the decision much harder! obviously i could keep throwing money at it, and getting a card thats just that little bit better... but really i need one that tops out at around £150, otherwise its taking away from the budget for the rest of my upgrade

my PSU is a Thermaltake 675W, and i should probably add that my current card is a 5770!

The 6950 2GB that was on sale at £150 was definitely the best bang for bucks up for £150...but not it has raised back to the £160+ range and becoming too close to 7850 price range.

As for computer upgrade, avoid AMD at all cost...Intel is the way to go.
