Hi guys , im about to build a new system , i want a 9650 CPU , though depending on total cost that may have to be downgraded to 9550 although i would deffo rather the 96 , anyway to the point !

What motherboard would you recommend i get for the mentioned cpu please ? Il be looking at getting at least 4gb of memory and overclocking the cpu , hopefully to around 4ghz . I intend to put an ATI 4870 x2 graphics card in the board as well , thanks for any advice you guys can offer me.

A few of us here managed to grab the 9650 for a bargain price recently and I can say that it's an excellent chip. Myself and another forum member here opted for the Gigabyte EP45 Extreme due to OcUK having a ridiculously reduced price at the moment. Compare their price to other places and you'll see what I mean. So far I'm finding the board and chip combo to be excellent and is rock solid. I've settled on 4.1ghz for the moment (24/7) although there's still a lot of headroom to go further as the temps are still great and it's only sitting at a VCore of 1.3v. The mobo supports Dolby Digital Live via the optical and coax outputs which was another bonus. It is a seriously well spec'd board and for the fact that it's now cheaper here than the P5Q Deluxe it's well worth a look. Overall I'm extremely happy with the combo.

I have mine in the Asus Maximus Formula II.....excellent processor as others have said. Easy 4.0Ghz at low volts too.
P5Q-Deluxe or Premium likely just as good.

I think the Q9650 is the "ultimate yorkfield"; I don't think they'll make anything better now since they have i7 out.

I also use the -Extreme, and I'm very satisfied with it. I run it slower than DJ, but I run it on stock voltage do the noise level increase is minimal, and it's still quite an overclock..

Thanks very much for all the input received so far guys , i really appreciate it , ive not done myself a new system for about 5 years now so im quite a bit behind on whats hot and whats not.
I think due to the current low price i will try the gigabyte extreme and bite the bullet for a 9650 , now i just need to decide on memory , gpu and psu lol !

I hope i have the pennies for a 4870 x2 ! :D

I believe BusError's running OCZ ram and I'm using the Corsair Dominator stuff so you'll definitely not have a problem with either of them with that board.

As far as the chip goes...it does seem to have gone up in price by about £40 in the last week however I'd keep your eyes open and hopefully you'll be able to grab a bargain. I'm glad I opted for the 9650 instead of the 9550.
