Hi All,

I know the WRT54G/GS routers ar very popular around here mainly due to thie r flexibility and Ive just picked up a GS v4 myself today. I havent had a chance to set it up yet as Im gonna read through the manual to ensure its secure as I doubt it is when setup as default...

Anyway as mines still Linux based (cheers for the heads up Tolien) I was wondering whats the best (i.e. most stable and feature packed) modded firmware out on these beauties and how easy are they to apply? Looking to do this once Ive got everything up and running...

I know there have been a few posts that have stated what some are using, but I havent seen a thread that discusses this in detail and why people prefer one to another...

P.S. If this is against the rules please delete...

P.P.S. While I remember I have an existing BEFSR41 network - as I doubt I need that many wired ports - can I literally just 'plus and play' so to speak with this router? I presume I can and would save me configuring another weak link :p...

Cheers

I use DD-WRT :) I have tried OpenWRT and HyperWRT (dont mention Sveasoft - its nasty) and DD-WRT came out on top, nice and fast and stable as hell! Oh, and the QoS actually works :D

Like I said before, www.linksysinfo.org is your friend.
Heres a decent link in response to that :)

As Cr4ig said it looks like DDWRT is more feature-packed and to boot free...

Just a shame Ive got the version with half the normal RAM that the older GSs had - presume the footprints of these firmwares arent that big though (16MB+)...

Worth me returning it and hunt down a v3? - I doubt you can find them outside the MM or 2nd hand...
