Best monitor stand?

Ok, so bit the bullet, getting rid of my triple 22inch monitor setup and moving to the LG Flatron 34UM95-P (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-106-LG)

Part of the reason I'm moving to a single monitor is the clear up desk space (side monitors are curved around hover over desk) and partly because I want more freedom of movement in the screen for showing work to people that visit the house etc.

Also want my girlfriend to be able to move the monitor to get more light on the desk to allow her to draw.

Currently I have 3x crap monitor arms that rely purely on friction to hold the monitors in place, as such moving them in a nightmare.

I'm looking at getting a single monitor arm to hold my new monitor that relies on gas/spring to allow movement and it looks like the "Ergotech Freedom" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YBaiCyvGWy4) is the way to go, but I can't find it for sale in the UK.

So - a) can anyone recommend an alternative monitor arm that would fit my needs or b) find somewhere I can buy the Ergotech Freedom in the UK?

Cheers guys!
Roy

I'm also using an Ergotron MX and it has adjustable tolerances for the weight of your monitor to allow fluid movement when changing position no matter what weight monitor you're using (assuming its within the tolerances of the stand)

Can't really see it in the pic but you can see my monitor is about mid way forward on the desk and I've got all space underneath to use unlike the stand that came with the monitor which was 25cm deep taking up loads of space.

StevenG- Is that the max hight the monitor can go to on that stand or can it go a bit higher?

It can go higher but it's not a very high mount. It's designed as being ergonomic i.e. the top of your monitor shouldn't be higher than your eye level. Also that is an ultrawide monitor so a 16:9/10 monitor would appear higher than this as a result of the aspect.

It will go as low as touching the desk.

Does it clamp to the desk then? How much space does it need underneath? I ask because I have a frame, so I wonder if it would hit that. Does it leave a mark on the desk where it's been clamped, or does it have some kind of soft lining to it?

I had to dismantle my desk but the version I got came with bolt through & clamp on, you get some non slip soft pads to put on the top part of the mount that sits on the desk.

The clamp doesn't take up that much room, I would say roughly 7-9cm in from the rear of the desk is needed for the clamp.

I'll get a picture of mine when I get in tonight.

Would the arm clamp attach off desk and still swivel so screen faces you?

I have a glass desk so cannot clamp on it, but have a window sill above the desk.

Looks great.

You'd have an issue with that as the base arm doesn't go past 180 degrees. the top arm would but you'd be limited on movement.

I believe they offer numerous wall mountable options which might be suitable if you have a wall space between your desk and the window sill.
