Hi guys,

im looking to purchase a new monitor for my new gaming rig.

my budget is £200, would like to spend less then this. Already gone way over total budget :D

Mostly going to be used for development (coding and level designing) and HD gaming.

My graphics card is most likely going to be a Nvidia 670 2gb.

The best one that ive found so far is this:
Asus VN247H 24"

But im not to sure on how its spec compares to others, it just looks sexy :D

Thanks.

thanks for the input, the info was very useful.

A bit confused though about 120hz, does that mean that the first screen benq is better then the acer as it has 144Hz over the other one at 120? Basically is higher better?

Have to say the Acer looks very outdated, the Benq atleast looks better.

Can you please also tell me one thing, should i be connecting my gpu card to the monitor via hdmi or dvi? what will offer better quality?

thanks

In theory they should be identical, but in practice nVidia cards will always output limited RGB (16-235) over HDMI, in the expectation that it'll be used to feed a TV - there's a choice between limited (video) levels and full range (0-255) in the driver settings, but this only works on the DVI output, unless it's been fixed in the latest releases. If you use 16-235 with a PC monitor expecting full range RGB (0-255), you'll end up with greyish blacks and dirty whites.

If you want full range RGB (0-255) levels more appropriate for PC use, you can get around it by setting a custom resolution or using a registry hack (Google for more info), but if you have the option to use DVI you might as well do so and save yourself the bother. :)

ok thanks mate, yeah i thought it would be best to use Dvi rather then hdmi, now i know why at least :D

Im still unsure on the monitor though! Really tempted to go with the BenQ, however i just realised its without speakers :(

That was a good bonus with the initial Asus VN247H that i liked! Obviously, i dont plan on using these speakers for anything major such as gaming or movies (will be using turtle beach tango surround sound headphones) but they are good to have just incase you want to quickly show a video or something while browsing the net to someone, it just helps to not have to buy extra speakers and also helps with the space also!

Im in the same boat killer nads, been searching for a 23/24inch gaming monitor myself for under £200 but the list is kinda exhausting....i dont know wether to go for a ips panel or led one, searched forums and other websites for info but evryone seems to conflict each other ,ie response times and lag....mite give up and just keep my old 19inch lcd unless someone can give me an idea...HELP.... Im not a pro gamer ,play crysis, need for speed, battlefield games and other fps....

To be honest out of the two that i found to my liking, it was the Asus VN247H and then the one recommended on here BenQ.

benQ has the higher refresh rate 144hz so i think im probably going to go for this!
