i'm looking into a portrait triple eyefinity at about 23inch per monitor (dont like dual due to the bar in the middle).
Portrait because i can have a 16:9.5 aspect ratio (@1920x3240)which is a great medium for gaming and movies, as well as being a huge size(around 42") and also large resolution.
i dont want to spend too much on them - originally going to spend £800 on 3 Dell 23" ultrasharps - they have eyefinity and rotating stands. however that is a lot of money and way over my budget.

i was wonderign what is the cheapest monitor (within reason) that is perfect for my setup? i need thin bezels on all sides and i can create a stand using the wall mounts to make it portrait.

no 23/24 inch DVI monitors like this is there?

If you are going to rotate them to portrait mode - then I would certainly consider the 23in Dell Ultrasharp option again.

This is because when you run a TFT monitor in portrait mode - the acceptable vertical view angles becomes the acceptable horizontal viewing angles. With cheap TN panel monitors (like the LG you link to above) the verical veiwing angles are rather restricted and when you rotate it around to portrait mode - this can be a big issue.

In comparison, an IPS monitor (like the Dell Ultrasharp U2311H) not only has better image quality and a true 8 bit panel, but the vertical (and horizontal) viewing angles are much wider - hence for portrait use it is a much better monitor to use.

Also, the Dell has other benefits since it has a native Displayport connection - so no active adapter is needed and the stand allows rotation to portrait mode.

That viewsonic one is a nice bit of kit - but it doesn't have any Response Time Compensation (which the dell does have) so the response time (14ms) is a fair but worse than the dell and supposedly blurring is visible - so not ideal for use with fast-paced games. (here is a full review, where the performance is compared to the Dell U2311H)

what difference in response times would they be compared to a TV?

my current setup is a 22" LG22300 TV
HDMI output --> DVI input
1680x1050 res

it seems fine in games but i do notice a bit of flickering every so often

It will be TN, all monitors of this size use TN panels - as they just use the standard TN monitors panels as the basis of the TV.

Also, 5ms is generally faster than what VA or IPS panels can achieve without overdrive (RTC) - so this again points to it being TN.
