Hi All

I need to upgrade my Gigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3P Rev 1.0 motherboard as it's a bit old now, I bought it as a budget MoBo many years ago and I'm trying to squeeze the last bit pf performance out of my gaming PC before it goes in the bin !

My current spec is:

Windows 10 Pro 64 Bit
Gigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3P Rev 1.0 motherboard - https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/GA-MA770T-UD3P-rev-10#ov
AMD Phenom II x4 965 3.4ghz
16GB RAM
Gigabyte Geforce GTX 1060 6GB Display Card
Samsung 860 EVO SSD

My question is, what is the BEST motherboard available that is compatible with the CPU and DDR3 RAM I have. I don't mind buying new so throw me some links please.

Over to you guys and gals as I'm years out of date on my hardware specs.

Thanks in advance.

Probably the Crosshair V formula-Z, for overclocking at least.

Or some later boards included an m.2 slot and/or usb 3.1.

I personally wouldn't spend much money on an old system.

i reccomend just saving up a bit and getting a proper upgrade,

i have experience of 2 phenom II 955 rigs and im sure i can safely say you'r gpu is bottleknecked and if you'r gonna go through the hassle of changing the motherboard, just get a new up to date one and whack in a ryzen for cheap with some cheap ddr4 mem.

would be a much better use of any money you have :)

Yeah, zero sense to buy new mobo for horribly outdated ultra low end CPU by todays terms.
Any part bought exclusively for that shouldn't cost more than pocket money you would be willing to throw into candy etc. without thinking twice.

Thanks for the advice so far guys and you are 100% correct. I have a few pennies saved up now ready for my upgrade. My next question is the obvious one, with a budget of £300 - £500 what combination of motherboard, CPU and RAM would you recommend.

I already have:

Windows 10 Pro 64 Bit
Super Flower 750wt SF-750F14MG 80 Plus Gold power supply.
Gigabyte Geforce GTX 1060 6GB Display Card.
Samsung 860 EVO 500GB SSD.
Sharkoon PC case.
DVD ROM (Obviously) Hehe
Some case fans.
Some PC case dust.

I'll need:

Motherboard.
CPU.
16 or possibly 32 GB RAM.
Heatsink and fan (If my current one is not compatible).

My buddy who I always turn to for hardware suggestions tells me to go for an AMD Ryzen 5- 6 core, 16GB DDR4 RAM and an Asus Prime Motherboard with an M2 slot for future SSD upgrading. What do you all think?

Should I go for a 6 core or a 4 core for gaming?

Will I be able to carry over my Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo CPU Heatsink and fans to the new Motherboard as I do like it, it's for Socket Intel LGA 2066/1151 and AMD AM4.

Thanks in advance guys, I'll let you know how I get on once Iv'e bought the new hardware and got it all up and running. I'm quite keen to get this sorted ASAP now as the PC crashes every time I play Star Wars Battlefront 2, I'm not exaggerating either, it every time I play it. BSOD and a re boot or the game just crashes to desktop, it's got to to be hardware related as all BSOD errors point to corrupt disk or data. It's quite odd as I just bought a new SSD and have re installed Windows 10 Pro. The problem was there with my previous SSD so the problem has not gone away. After looking into the errors I genuinely thought the problem was my old 250GB Samsung 850 Evo SSD but it's clearly not.

6 Core

As long as it comes with the required AM4 fittings then it should be fine.

Something like the below would be my choice. While you could leave out the M2 SSD, it makes sense to get one at the same time so that you can do a clean install (whilst retaining your old SSD install until you are up and running, which could then be reused for Steam library etc)

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £465.06 (includes shipping: £11.10)

@Armageus - Thanks for that buddy, I had a look and it all seems good stuff to me.

For all, I just had another BSOD, 3rd this morning and Iv'e only been awake since 06:00. All three happened when playing Star Wars Battlefront 2:

Critical Structure Corruption
Store Data Corruption
PFN List Corrupt

Iv'e also had:

WHEA Incorrectable Error

Kernel Securty Check Failure

I ONLY get BSOD's when playing this specific game. No issues with the rest of the system or applications. No errors shown in Event Viewer either. Quite annoying.

£500 budget to play Star Wars heheheheheh

Hi guys

Iv'e only just saved up the money for my purchases due to being out of work during the virus issue, Iv'e added all of the parts to my basket save for the SSD and RAM as they are now out of stock, which alternative SSD and RAM would you recommend?

How about this SSD: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/seag...-state-drive-rv.1-zp500cm3a001-hd-3bz-se.html

And this RAM: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/team...-3600mhz-dual-channel-kit-blac-my-0a3-tg.html

Also, are there any alternative components that may now provide better bang for buck etc?

Thanks in advance.

Samsung drives are all more or less seriously brand overpriced.
£15 more gets double capacity drive lot more usefull for actually fitting games in than Samsung's brand sticker.

Sense making prices for small half TB drive is £75

This would be £10 cheaper RAM.

And while CAS latency is one smaller rest are slower than in this another £10 cheaper kit.
