So what is the best motherboard out there for the SG03 / SG04? Been totally out of the overclocking loop. Looking at peoples systems there is a range of different ones in use! Looking at the P45 chipset.

Cheers for any help :)

What do you want from it? P45 is solid for c2d, but has no onboard graphics. G45 is about the same but with onboard graphics. If you want i7, P45 obviously won't run it.

I've got the G35 asus board, my friend has a G45 equivalent. Both behave well, mine runs an e8400 at 3.6 without straining. He is yet to overclock his properly but it looks similar.

So yeah, what do you want it to do? matx is nicer (I think) than atx, but cooling it isn't easy

It will be my main computer. I will be putting my X1800XT in there until the bank manager gives me more money :) I'm now torn between P45 and X58, as the difference seems to be £150 (~£100 for the mobo, ~£50 for CPU). Not looked into memory though :S

So er yeah, will be my main rig! Cheers

Phenom/Athlon Socket AM2+ w/Dedicated Graphics : DFI Lanparty JR 790GX.
Phenom/Athlon Socket AM2+ w/Integrated Graphics : Pick any.

Intel C2D/C2Q S775 w/Dedicated Graphics : DFI Lanparty JR P45-T2RS
Intel C2D/C2Q S775 w/Integrated Graphics : Gigabyte GA-G33M-DS2R

Intel Core i7 : Asus Rampage II Gene or DFI Lanparty JR X58 (basically neck and neck)

Reason i've gone for the G33 board is that it's a proven rock solid performer. The G43/G45 boards are still prone to the odd problem.

The i7 is a very hot platform. I would be very wary of building an mATX X58 system just because of the difficulty of cooling it in an mATX case.

Cheers! Think I am steering away from i7 as its a bit more £££ than I want to spend. Was really leaning towards the DFI, but saw a few pictures of the Asus Maximus II Gene which looks sweet - but no real info on it. What to dooooooo what to doooooooo!

Webbo did a review of the Rampage II Gene. From what I can tell, the DFI is a better board IF you have the brains to understand the settings, it's a pure fiddler's board.

I've been toying with the idea of going i7, if I did it would be the R2G as I don't feel confident with a DFI board! :p

Not sure if you are drifting off the point, or whether you have read the Maximus 2 Gene as Rampage 2 Gene, but the former is LGA776 :)
So will either be Asus P45 or DFI P45, but can't seem to see any mention of the Asus board anywhere (all reviews are for the X58 board), so don't know what to do! :)
