Best mouse for gaming?

MX518, I bought a RAT7 on the back of the thread in here somewhere about how great it was for gaming, its horrific, I went back to the MX518 almost immediately and the RAT has remained an expensive paperweight.

Definetely one to try before you buy.

What didn't you like about the RAT? My 9's great for gaming, it's got good weight, very comfy and very responsive.

The comfort thing is a big factor for me, I have to use a claw grip on mose mouses because I have big hands, the rat with the high palm rest and the thumb piece set up right fits me perfectly for claw or plam grip.

The RAT's do strike me as looking uncomfortable, they look like medieval torture devices especially with the visible screws.

The main thing is that I couldnt get any accuracy with it, I didnt find it anywhere near as smooth travelling over my mousepad as the MX518, i have large hands as well but I felt it was just over engineered.

I ended up using as my work mouse, it then broke last week (laser stopped working) so Im waiting for a replacement, my trusty MX518 has been going strong now for 4 years.

I was the same, then I tried one. :) They have all the right pieces so they don't feel odd, they just have holes between those pieces that allow for adjustment.

Obviously it depends on what's comfortable for the buyer though, I like the fact that I've basically made my RAT into a huge mouse to fit my hand, you can also make them smaller. They're not especially contoured though so if you're into that kind of thing then a mamba might be a better bet. I've not managed to get my hand on a mamba (I wanted to compare one to the RAT before buying, but they didn't have any in stock), I've had no regrets with this though.

Actually I'm looking at the G700 as my next mouse, just going to wait for my G7 batteries to give out, it could drag on for years.

Ive used the Mamba since it was released... It does not turn itself off when you lift, how daft would that be for a gaming mouse (i cant speak for the Imperator).

How daft it is indeed, but that's Razer for you. However it's a fact that the sensor turns itself off (or lags) when you lift it a certain distance off the pad, and for over £100 I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who takes gaming seriously.

whats the wireless lag like on the rat9 was so tempted to grab one from PCW the other day, they had two of wired rats (3 and 5) on display and I liked the feel of them tbh (had nice wieght to them too)

Does the 9 feel much different from the wired ones? ie weight, tracking, any downsides like not tracking on lift etc.

Just not sure I want wireless or whether to go with the 5 or 7.

CoolerMaster Storm Sentinel at the moment... I like it, but kinda wish I just bought a DeathAdder.

I have had two Roccat Kone's. Both of the mouse wheels went in them. Maybe I was unlucky or I just mistreated the mouse wheel, but I doubt it. They were both purchased just after release, so they might have addressed that issue. Other than that, a great mouse.

And before that, I had an MX510 for about 5 years. That was a great mouse and so I assume that the MX518 is just as good.
