¯\_(ツ)_/¯
My nokia phone will not play lossless files or OGG's, so I'm having to make 320kbps MP3 files.

I'm using lame with 3.97 with lamedropXPd - will this give me the best quality MP3's at 320?

I guess so - It won't sound as good as flac, but it should be good at 320.

It's some music which has got subliminal messages in (apparently), so I hope the lossy compression does change things too much as it tries to only get rid of sound it deems inaudible...

I'm not using the phones speakers ;) My Nokia is connected to sennheiser hd25's thru a modded hands free nokia adaptor - MP3's sound very good thru decent headphones.

Anyway, I found a way to play back FLACs on my Nintendo DS, so I'm gonna use that instead. :)

Good to hear LAME is still the best.

EDIT: For anyone that's interested, here's what files I ended up with. 27 mins of audio:

280mb as WAV
100mb as FLAC
85mb as OGG (Q10)
62mb as MP3 (320)

I guess so... my headphones are sennheiser hd25's which aren't exactly high end, but sound good to my ears at least. I soldered up the headphone jack myself, so i used a decent quality connector.

I so seem to get better SQ from the jack on my Nintendo DS compared to the Nokia, I guess it could be a better quality pre-amp or DAC.

I normally use ~128kbps for most stuff on the nokia, it's quite surprising how many hours of music you can get on a 2gb card. It's just this one bit of audio I wanted to have as good as I could, and FLAC is perfect for this.
