I've tried MP3 Gain and I'm looking into MP3 Doctor, but I was wondering what you all thought was the best one? I want a program that normalises MP3 files not by butchering them and changing their coding but, like MP3 Gain, leaves the original information intact but for the gain information.

I think (!!) iTunes can do this when you import a library. Don't know if it's any good, but hopefully someone else will be able to confirm or deny it!

Not much help, but hey. ;)

Because I mostly listen to MP3s on my car stereo and it's annoying having to constantly adjust the volume for MP3s encoded at different levels.

The process I gather with a good normaliser doesn't in fact butcher the MP3. Apparently it adjusts (reversibly) items that decide the level of signal amplitude. Or something.

Anyway, agree or disagree with MP3 normalisation, are there any recommendations? Thanks :)

Probably not, but what's the make/model? Like I said Replaygain is far superior method of getting even track/album loudness, without effecting the gain of the track itself. It's non destructive. Just disable replaygain in winamp and it'll go back to original values (difference in volume between albums)

MP3gain is destructive, once you've applied gain that's it.
