Best multipurpose encoder for DVDs and converting files for iPad

Hey,

Sure this has been asked many times before, but I'd really welcome up-to-date opinions on best software around for converting DVDs to electronic format (just bought X Files complete, 201 episodes!) and for batch processing multiple files/folders of mostly AVIs to iPad format.

Handbreak, and the profiles are set up by default

We use AVI demux for doing this at work.

We tried with handbrake, but had more success with AVI demux.

You need to know the correct codecs, bitrates, containers and resolutions to use however..
