Hi folks,

Running a WDTV Live currently and when it works it's superb, but it's massively unreliable and crashes or freezes a lot, so I'm looking for an alternative.

Not interested in the Apple TV due to codec limitations etc.

Anyone familiar with the others? I've been hearing a lot about the Fire TV and Kodi.

My only requirements are:

- ethernet
- solid NAS support for playback of videos and photos
- solid codec support for OLD video codecs like old divx/xvid/mov etc.
- solid codec support for NEW videos like mkv/mp4 etc.
- smooth playback

Been looking into the Fire TV and mede8er, they seem like good options.

Cheers!

No audio requirements at all. HDMI > TV > Optical into my Receiver with stereo.

I'm also not bothered about 24p. Don't think I've come across any videos in that so far.

How solid is the Fire TV? I just want something that doesn't freeze or need rebooting regularly, since I use it daily multiple times sometimes.

Cheers :)
