i see the logic, but being an nvidia fanboy...... please dont slaughter me i know the 48xx series rocks nvidias socks off but id rather stick with the green camp, and i know its gay but if you saw my case, its got nvidia all over it! what the green guys got to offer?
Well it's time to fetch the paper scraper I'm afraid, cos the HD4850 is THE only way to go.

Isnt the standard 9800GTX meant to drop to that region? If you need to go Nvida then thats my choice (cough get a 4850 cough).

Yep it's been known for ages that the 9800GTX is being slashed to $199 once the 9800GTX+ comes in at $229. So it will be priced about the same as a 4850.
If you must buy today and it must be an Nvidia card, then the 8800GT is the best option under £100. That 8800GTX XXX was good value but seems to have shot up to £140.

In all the game benchmarks I've seen the 8800GT is quicker than the 4850 and it is cheaper.

I can't be bothered linking the other major reviews which all show the 4850 thrashing the 8800GT.
The 4850, especially with AA on beats a 8800GTX so are you claiming a 8800GT beats a 8800GTX now?

No I'm not joking. I'm wondering what figures you lot are looking at, as all the weeks I've been looking the 8800GT is still faster than the 4850 and cheaper.
The 4870 is a lot faster but a lot dearer.
Some reviews are quicker, others are not.
I did post a link, but I think it was a competitor, so I deleted it.
I'd like to be proved wrong, but not by a couple of fps and on one review.

Err you need to go to specsavers mate.
That was one game and the difference was 3.9fps which is 15%
At 1920 x 1200 the difference is 3.8 fps and 18%

Would you care to show all the viewers at home some benchmark results that actually prove your ludicrous claims. Most reviews show the 4850 going toe to toe with the 9800GTX leaving the 8800GT far behind.

You are quite clearly wrong. The 4850 is easily faster than the 8800GT. Its also faster than the 8800GTS 512, 9800GTX and 9800GTX+ in games as well..In all the game benchmarks I've seen the 8800GT is quicker than the 4850 and it is cheaper.

Sorry but in this case, simply don't. Until Nvidia get a competetive card in that price range you're absolutely making the wrong decision, unless you need sheer power for Folding, which you haven't mentioned. This price range is absolutely dominated by AMD right now, please make the right decision
