Best Nvidia upgrade from RTX 3060 12GB for 4K?

Stop worrying about the GPU melting issue and get the 4090. They are all terrible value but if money is a factor, then the 7900 XTX Pulse at £890 is much better value than the one you linked.

Why? When he'll get a similar frame rate to a 4070Ti because the CPU will bottleneck it.

For the extra £800 he can get a new CPU/Motherboard combo and get more frames that way, and it'll future proof

LOL

OP has stated his brother wants RTX... So the assumption would be ray tracing and DLSS.
Then people start trying to sell him on AMD even though their ray tracing is behind and their upscaling doesn't even compare to DLSS

If somebody comes in asking for value for money and stating they don't mind missing out on RT because they're not fussed about it anyway then yes, AMD for the win. But if somebody wants good RT performance and DLSS etc nobody should be recommending AMD to them. Yes AMD can have good RT performance, but only in games where it's lightly used, not in RT heavy games. AMD are the value king right now, but that isn't what the OP came in here asking about

He is running games at 4K,so even if the Nvidia cards are better at RT,RT generally needs more VRAM. So there are instances where the AMD cards can end up having a more consistent experience because the Nvidia cards run out of VRAM. So I suspect that might be the reason why people are suggesting the RX7900 series or the RTX4090.

I agree it will bottleneck but the OP states this is mainly for RT games. So at 4K with full extreme RT games, they are still GPU limited even in an 4090. Other games will bottleneck but it won’t matter that much because a 4090 will still push well over 100 FPS.

But yeah, play a less graphical intensive game and he may as well be using a 4070Ti.

4090 is complete overkill for a i9-9900KF and the CPU will be bottlenecked. It's a huge waste of money. Same goes for the 4080

I would say go for either a 4070 or a 4070Ti and use DLSS/FSR2 when available

Depends what you are playing - games which make extensive use of ray tracing for instance tend to be so GPU bound the CPU utilisation can be significantly lowered - at 4K you'll find the CPU is less of an issue compared to 1440p type resolutions as well.

Personally would not choose the 4070 for 4K - it isn't vastly faster than the 3070 which is definitely not a 4K card with any bleeding edge games and/or next generation games and though the VRAM amount will cope for now we aren't far off it coming up short.

Personally as much as I consider the 4000 series a sick joke the 4090 is actually pretty decent use of your money if you do play at 4K - pretty much any other GPU you are going to be making compromises (sure if you want to make a point you can make a 4090 struggle at 4K but that is another story).

If its for starfield etc I would gt a either a 7900xtx or 4090 you know very soon after launch there will be load of mods and texture packs that will earn ram for fun and it jus means there will be less worries about it bogging down
