Our big Toshiba is dying a slow death and the parents want a smaller replacement that they can use for word/internet and that's about it. What's the best of the bunch at the moment, must be Windows though as anything else terrifies them. Unsure of budget, just throw some at me :)

EDIT: I meant Netbook, doh! Changed.

I have an NC10 and it's brilliant. Certainly very popular on here as well. Comes with XP but runs Windows 7 brilliantly. Can't recommend it highly enough.

Lenovo S10 seems to be a popular one as well.

NC10 is being replaced now with the n110, and they are ruining the S10 in the new version out soon making it look just like all the other netbooks out there with their glossy cases and curves :(

If I was buying a new one now it'd be either a samsung n110 or the eee 1000HE. The Dell mini 10 also looks pretty good, esp tempting with the high res screen.

EEE 1000HE happy owner here, has the longest battery life, chiclet ketboard, Draft N wireless, can take RAM up to 800MHz and also won't void warranty to change hdd and RAM :D

The NC10 is fantastic, but i bought an Advent 4211 (identical to the MSI wind) from PCWorld for £219 where as an NC10 is £320+. My one has all the features of the NC10 (same Atom CPU, same RAM, Bluetooth/WIFI but has an 80GB HD instead of a 160GB one) and all for over £100 cheaper. Plus is it stupidly easy to upgrade my one (already upgraded to 2GB of RAM for about £10)

However, the NC10 battery will last for ages (5-6 hours easily) because it is a 6 cell, but my one is a 3 cell so only usually get about 2hrs 30mins out of it.

I have the NC20, absolutely love it and with the bigger higher res(1280x800) 12.1` screen it makes web browsing much less of a pain than on a lower res(1024x640) smaller 10.2` netbook, as you want it for your parents the bigger higher res screen will definately help them have a better experience.

It is still very light with excellent battery life too for a 12.1` screen.( 5 to 6 hrs)
