Best Online Backup

hello

i'm working on this at the moment as a home project.

Crashplan is ok if you don't have a lot to backup. for large backups <1T.

there are afew issues.

First its slow
Second there is a bug where crash plan crash silently. You have to manually set it to use more RAM.

Other than that its great lol

I need a start of 3TB so its no good for me.

edit, ppl have written about where you are located in relation to the server you are backing up too which can effect speed.

but i was doing 10 GB per day and support said that was good.

i could live with 50GB per day but not 10GB. i make more than 10GB per day i would never catchup lol

Just a tip, wait a few days before buying. On black friday last year I got crashplan unlimited for a year....for something like £3.

OK, I have tried quite a few.
My problem is that they are large files "1GB" and my upload speed is only 0.65mb.

So online backup does not seem to be a very practical solution.
My download is Ok at 20mb

If you roll it yourself using Amazon S3 you can seed the backup by posting them a hard drive.

Although the cost difference between using S3 and using something like CrashPlan would probably get you a faster connection.

Thanks. I think I need to contact my service provider (BT) to see if I can get a better upload service.

Crash plan is nice but very slow, mine hovered around 1mbps. If you have a faster upload speed and a lot of data I wouldd look elsewhere. Back blaze looks interesting...

I've used mozy at one site for over a year and it often fails for no real reason. Often it will work the next day without a problem or sometimes it requires you to restart the server and update the software before it works again. The web interface is also quite limited but the software and speed is ok.

The annoying thing about mozy is there is no central management console, so each server has its own software agent installed and its managed individually.
